7-Day Central African Republic Itinerary
Central African Republic (CAR) might not be the first country that comes to mind for travelers, but it’s worth the effort. Day 1: Bangui
Most trips to Central African Republic begin in Bangui, the nation’s capital. It’s a small, lively city situated along the Ubangi River. You’ll fly into Bangui M’Poko International Airport and can spend the morning settling in.
Spend an afternoon exploring the city. Visit the Presidential Palace (also called Palais de la Renaissance) and soak up some of the colonial architecture. You can take guided treks to track gorillas and observe them in their natural setting—an experience that feels remarkably intimate compared to more tourist-heavy countries. In addition to gorillas, you may also see monkeys, buffaloes, antelope, and an array of birds.

Day 4: Dzanga-Sangha (Pygmy Villages & Wildlife Spotlight)
Today, stick around Dzanga-Sangha for another culturally rich experience. Take a visit to one of the nearby Ba’Aka (pygmy) villages. Spending time with the Ba’Aka gives you a chance to learn about their deep knowledge of the forest. Many groups still live in a semi-nomadic way, relying on hunting and gathering. It’s a profoundly humbling experience.

Day 6: Kaga-Bandoro
Today will take you northeast toward Kaga-Bandoro. It’s another long ride (around 6-7 hours), so pack some snacks. The scenery makes the trip worth it though, with stretches of savannah and small villages breaking up the landscape.
In Kaga-Bandoro, history awaits. This remote town was once central to the trans-Saharan trade route, and while it’s quieter now, it holds remnants of history. You can also visit some of the older colonial-era buildings that still stand, although many are quite dilapidated.

Day 7: Back to Bangui
