Day 1: Arrive in Abidjan

Spend the day exploring the district of Le Plateau. It’s the heart of the city’s business area, but the skyline and modern architecture will give you a good introduction to Abidjan’s urban vibe. Make time to visit the St. Paul’s Cathedral, a unique piece of architecture with great views of the city.
Day 2: Culture and History in Abidjan
Dig a little deeper today and visit the Musée des Civilisations de Côte d’Ivoire. You’ll learn about the country’s rich history and see traditional Ivorian artifacts.
In the afternoon, wander around the neighborhoods of Treichville and Cocody. Stop at a local maquis (Ivorian informal restaurant) for a taste of attiéké (cassava couscous) and grilled fish.
Day 3: Down to Grand-Bassam
Grand-Bassam, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is only a short drive from Abidjan. The town was the country’s first capital during the French colonial period, and you can still sense the colonial atmosphere.

Day 4: Free Day in Grand-Bassam

Day 5: Travel to Yamoussoukro
Hit the road and head to Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire’s capital city. On the way, you’ll get a feel for the country’s landscapes and rural scenery. The journey takes about 3-4 hours.
Once in Yamoussoukro, visit the Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix. It’s one of the largest basilicas in the world and a truly impressive sight. Later, relax by the town’s artificial lakes, where you might spot some crocodiles—yes, crocodiles in the middle of the city.
Day 6: Explore Yamoussoukro
Start with a walk around Yamoussoukro’s wide boulevards. It’s a quiet city compared to Abidjan, so take it easy and enjoy the relaxed pace.
You can explore the grand Presidential Palace and check out the massive mosque in town. Spend the afternoon chatting with locals or visiting small markets to get a sense of daily life in the city.
Day 7: Head to Bouaké
Today you’ll travel north to Bouaké, Côte d’Ivoire’s second-largest city. Bouaké is known for its vibrant markets and trade.
Explore the bustling Grand Marché and find some local crafts to take home as souvenirs. Don’t forget to try kédjénou, a popular Ivorian dish of chicken stewed with vegetables. It’s a dish locals will happily recommend.
Day 8: Bouaké’s Culture and Relaxation
Spend the morning learning about the local Baoulé culture by visiting some nearby villages. The Baoulé are one of the largest ethnic groups in the country, and many communities around Bouaké can give you a real feel for life in Côte d’Ivoire’s interior.
In the afternoon, head back to Bouaké to relax or explore more of what the city has to offer. For downtime, grab a coffee in one of the local cafés or sit down in the shade at a park to reflect on your trip so far.
Day 9: Travel to Man
Your next move is to the picturesque town of Man, nestled in the mountains of western Côte d’Ivoire. Man is known for its natural beauty and cooler climate, which offers a refreshing break from the heat.
In the afternoon, take a walk around Man and visit the local waterfalls. Not far from town, these falls are a great place to cool off and enjoy nature. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in this laid-back town.
Day 10: Hike to La Dent de Man
End your trip on a high note with a hike to La Dent de Man, a dramatic mountain peak offering incredible views. The hike is challenging but worth it; just make sure to start early before the sun is too high in the sky.
After the hike, celebrate by grabbing a hearty meal at a local restaurant and enjoy one last evening in Côte d’Ivoire. Tomorrow, you’ll head back to Abidjan for your flight home.
