Day 1: Accra – Arrival and Exploration
Welcome to Ghana! You’ll likely arrive in Accra, the capital and a bustling city full of life. Check into your hotel, drop your bags, and get ready to explore this vibrant city. Start off by visiting Independence Square, an iconic landmark that commemorates Ghana’s freedom from British colonial rule.
From there, head to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. This park honors the first president and a key figure in Ghana’s independence. It’s a peaceful spot in the middle of the city, perfect for taking in some history.
In the evening, visit the artsy Osu district. It’s home to great restaurants, lively bars, and street vendors where you can get your hands on some kente cloth or local crafts.
Day 2: Accra – Delve into the Culture

For the rest of the day, unwind at one of the nearby beaches such as Brenu Beach or Anomabo Beach. These beaches are clean, less busy than Labadi, and perfect for some well-deserved relaxation.
Day 6: Kumasi – The Ashanti Kingdom
It’s time to leave the coast and head inland to Kumasi, the cultural capital of Ghana. The drive will take about 4-5 hours, so start early to maximize your time.
Upon arrival, head to the Manhyia Palace Museum, the seat of the Ashanti Kingdom. The museum offers insight into the Ashanti’s rich history, culture, and importance to Ghana. If you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of traditional ceremonies.
Later, explore the Kejetia Market—the largest market in West Africa! It’s bustling, so don’t plan on relaxing too much here. But it’s an amazing spot for photography and absorbing the energy of everyday life in Kumasi.
Day 7: Kumasi – Arts and Crafts
Today, dive deeper into the Ashanti culture by visiting several nearby craft villages. Start with Bonwire, the birthplace of the famous Kente cloth, where you can see local weavers creating the intricate patterns by hand.
Next, visit Ntonso, known for its adinkra cloth. Learn the traditional techniques for making these symbols, which are often used to represent concepts like strength, hope, and unity. You can even try printing your own cloth!
End your day by visiting Lake Bosomtwe, about 30 minutes from Kumasi. This beautiful lake, formed by a meteor impact, is peaceful and makes for a lovely spot to unwind before heading back to the city.
Day 8: Mole National Park – Wildlife Adventure
It’s time to head up north! Take an early morning domestic flight to Tamale and from there, drive to Mole National Park. This park is Ghana’s largest wildlife reserve, and it’s one of the few places in West Africa where you can go on a safari.
Spend the morning on a guided walking safari—be on the lookout for elephants, antelope, and baboons. If walking isn’t your thing, you can join a jeep safari instead.
In the afternoon, relax at your lodge, either taking in views of the waterhole (where animals gather) or just catching up on some rest.
Day 9: Mole – Continue Your Safari
Get up early and start your day with another safari, either by foot or by jeep. Mole is vast, and every day brings new possibilities for wildlife sightings.
Later, spend the rest of your day exploring Larabanga, a small village nearby. The Larabanga Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in West Africa, is worth visiting. Though it’s small, its history and unique architecture make it quite special.
In the evening, return to your lodge and enjoy a quiet night under the stars.
Day 10: Tamale – Departure or Additional Exploration
Your trip is coming to an end, but there’s one more morning to soak in the beauty of Ghana. If you have time before heading to the airport, visit the Tamale Cultural Centre to learn more about the traditions of the northern region.
Grab one last meal in town, perhaps some jollof rice or fufu, before making your way to the airport. If you’re not flying out of Tamale, catch a domestic flight back to Accra for your international departure.
