You might want to start with a visit to Oxford Street in Osu, a lively area filled with restaurants, shops, and street vendors. It’s the perfect place to ease into the local vibe.

Day 2: Explore Accra

Start the day by visiting the National Museum where you’ll get a great introduction to Ghana’s history and culture. Then head to Independence Square for a closer look at the country’s journey to freedom. Wrap up your day with a visit to the W.E.B. Du Bois Center, a museum dedicated to the Pan-African movement. If you’re looking for a chill evening, find a beach bar and enjoy fresh coconut water while watching the sunset.

Day 3: Day Trip to Aburi and Shai Hills

Time for a day trip! Begin at Aburi Botanical Gardens, about an hour from Accra. This place is a peaceful escape with lush greenery and beautiful views. Afterward, head to Shai Hills Reserve where you can hike through the savannah, spot baboons, and explore ancient caves. It’s a great way to experience Ghana’s natural beauty without the crowds.

Day 4: Cape Coast and Elmina Castles

Depart from Accra early and travel to Cape Coast. Here, you’ll visit both Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle, two important historical sites tied to the transatlantic slave trade. Walking through the dungeons is heavy, but an important part of understanding Ghana’s past. Once you’ve taken it all in, spend the night at the beach nearby.

Day 5: Kakum National Park

In the morning, it’s time for some outdoor activities at Kakum National Park. Get your adrenaline going by walking the famous canopy walkway; it’s 40 meters above the forest floor and the views are breathtaking.
