You’ll land in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Spend the day getting over your jet lag and taking a short walk around the city to explore some local markets. Check out the Avenue de l’Indépendance and its vibrant street food. Ease into your trip with a nice meal at a local restaurant. Relax, get settled, and prepare for your adventure starting tomorrow.

Day 2: Explore Antananarivo

Begin your day visiting the Rova of Antananarivo, the former King’s palace, for a glimpse into the island’s royal past. Then, head to the Andafiavaratra Palace, another historical highlight. In the afternoon, visit the Tsarasaotra Bird Park for some nature close to the city. Take your time to explore local neighborhoods along the way; it’s a great chance to chat with locals.

Day 3: Head to Andasibe

Today you’ll head eastward three hours to Andasibe-Mantadia National Park. This park is home to the famous Indri lemur. After settling in, take a night walk through the forest to spot nocturnal animals, like chameleons and smaller lemur species. It’s a great way to ease into Madagascar’s unique wildlife.

Day 4: Andasibe National Park

Spend the day exploring the park trails, focusing on the rainforest that’s home to many lemurs, including the Indri lemur. You’ll also see waterfalls and lush greenery along the way. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the jungle and remind yourself there’s no rush. After trekking, relax at your lodge.

Day 5: Visit Vakona Reserve

Spend your day hiking through lush rainforests. Ranomafana is famous for its biodiversity, especially its population of endangered lemurs. Hike through thick forests, spot lemurs, chameleons, and the beautiful birdlife Madagascar has to offer. It’s a long day of trekking, but worth every second.

It’s a long drive, though you can stop along the way to see tiny Malagasy villages and open grasslands. Once you’re there, settle into your lodge and take in the incredible surroundings.

Day 11: Hiking in Isalo National Park

Explore the iconic Isalo National Park. The park offers stunning hikes through canyons, rock formations, and waterfalls. Don’t forget to take a dip in one of the natural pools to cool off. The landscape here looks totally different from the rainforest, so it’ll feel like you’re hiking on a whole new planet.

Today, make your way to the coastline. It’s a six-hour drive to Ifaty, a sleepy fishing village by the ocean. Once you’re there, it’s all about relaxing by the beach. Take a dip in the warm waters or grab a drink while watching the sunset. The beach is your perfect escape after the long hikes and drives.

Day 13: Beach Day in Ifaty

Spend the day at your leisure. Go snorkeling in the coral reefs just offshore, or take a boat trip to see traditional Vezo fishing methods. The area is famous for its baobab trees, so consider taking a short walk to check some out. Or, spend the whole day sitting with your toes in the sand. It’s your trip, after all.

Day 14: Return to Antananarivo

After soaking up the last bit of sun, it’s time to head back to Antananarivo. Depending on your flight schedule, this is either going to be an early morning drive or a flight back to the capital. Once in the capital, grab some last-minute souvenirs at the local markets. Round off your trip with a nice dinner and reflect on all you’ve seen.
