Day 1: Arrival in Niamey
Fly into Niamey, Niger’s capital. Take a little time to settle in and adjust to the surroundings. There’s a lot of travel ahead, so it’s smart to start slow.
In the afternoon, explore the local markets. The Grand Marché is a bustling spot to get a feel for the vibrant trade culture. Stick around for some street food after—simple, easy, and tasty.
Day 2: Discover Niamey
Spend the day getting to know Niamey better. Start with the National Museum of Niger. It’s small but insightful, giving you a sense of the country’s history and tradition. You can explore the exhibits at a comfortable pace.
In the afternoon, head to the Niamey Grand Mosque. It’s one of the most important religious sites in the country. Even if you’re not religious, the architecture and peaceful atmosphere here are worth experiencing.
Day 3: Boat Ride on the Niger River
Get out on the Niger River today. There are small, local boats you can hire for a day trip. Float along the river and take in the slow-paced life along its banks.
You might spot hippos and birds while gliding along. Bring snacks and take your time; it’s a chilled way to spend the day.
Day 4: Travel to Agadez

Today, catch a flight or start the journey by car to Agadez. It’s a cultural gem in Niger, and you’ll love its mix of sand-colored buildings and centuries-old history.
Arrive and spend the evening wandering through the old town. The mud-brick architecture will transport you straight into the desert atmosphere.
Day 5: Agadez Exploration
Spend your morning visiting the Agadez Mosque. It’s one of the tallest mud-brick structures in the world, and climbing to the top gives you a panoramic view of the city.
In the afternoon, visit the local Tuareg market. This is a great chance to immerse yourself in the local culture, chat with artisans, and get a taste of desert life.
Day 6: Trip to the Air Mountains
Today’s an adventure: head to the Air Mountains, just outside Agadez. This range is full of hidden valleys, petroglyphs, and changing landscapes.
If you’re feeling adventurous, book time with a local guide to hike or ride camels around the area. Enjoy the beauty, but pace yourself—this is no rush.
Day 7: Desert Excursion to the Ténéré
Go deeper into the desert with a trip to the Ténéré Desert. This part of the Sahara is iconic, with dunes stretching out as far as you can see.

Consider spending the night in a Tuareg camp. It’s basic but unforgettable. Plus, you can experience traditional food and Tuareg music under the stars.
Day 8: Return to Agadez
Make your way back to Agadez, and use the day to recover from your desert trip. Grab a laid-back meal in town, then take a slow stroll through the streets.
If you didn’t get a chance before, drop by the Sultan’s Palace. It’s a key historical landmark and worth seeing up close.
Day 9: Flight Back to Niamey
Head back to Niamey for your final day. If you’re driving, this can be a long ride, so it’s best to use the day for travel or catch a flight if you prefer.

Once back, consider revisiting a few favorites from earlier in the trip, or visit a café to relax and reflect on your journey.
Day 10: Chill Day and Departure
It’s your last day, so take it easy. Have a relaxed brunch and wander around the streets near your accommodation. Shop for souvenirs if you like.
A little downtime is perfect before your flight back home. Hopefully, you’ll leave with some fantastic memories and maybe a bit of desert sand still in your shoes!
