Day 1: Arrival in Mogadishu
Start your trip in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu. Ease into your travels by taking a relaxed walk along Liido Beach. It’s a popular spot for locals to hang out, and you’ll get a feel for the city’s vibrant energy.
Chat with some locals and grab dinner at one of the nearby coastal restaurants. Fresh fish and fantastic ocean views are a great way to kick off your journey.
Day 2: Exploring Mogadishu
Take a deeper dive into Mogadishu’s history today. Visit the National Museum for an overview of Somali culture. Then, make your way to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a monument honoring those who have fought for Somalia.
Later, visit Bakara Market, one of the largest markets in the city. It’s a lively place and gives you a good sense of how locals go about their daily lives.
Day 3: Visit the Mogadishu Lighthouse
Walk along the historic Old Port area today. While you’re here, visit the Mogadishu Lighthouse, a reminder of the city’s past and maritime history. You’ll also have stunning views of the Indian Ocean.
Spend the afternoon relaxing at Peace Garden, a tranquil spot to unwind and watch local families enjoying their day.
Day 4: Day Trip to Afgooye

Head out of Mogadishu to the small town of Afgooye, known for its agricultural history. You’ll drive through lush farmlands and learn about the local way of life.
It’s a peaceful, slower-paced day compared to the city. You’ll have time to reflect on what you’ve seen before heading back to Mogadishu for the evening.
Day 5: Fly to Hargeisa
Catch a morning flight to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland. Spend the day settling in and getting to know this quieter city. Head to Freedom Square and soak in the atmosphere.
In the evening, find a small local restaurant for some traditional Somali camel meat dishes. The food here is simple but very flavorful.
Day 6: Laas Geel
Laas Geel is a must-see! These cave paintings date back thousands of years. The artwork depicts ancient life in the region, and the landscapes around the caves are also beautiful—perfect for a picnic or a quiet walk.
Return to Hargeisa in the afternoon and wander through the city’s vibrant markets. You’ll find spices, textiles, and handmade goods.
Day 7: Day of Rest in Hargeisa
Use today for some downtime. Head to a local café or grab a Somali tea while you people-watch in Freedom Square. This is a great day to recharge your batteries and plan for the second half of your trip.

If you’re feeling up to it, you can explore the surrounding villages outside of Hargeisa for a low-key adventure.
Day 8: Berbera
Travel to Berbera, Somaliland’s coastal town along the Gulf of Aden. It’s about a 3-hour drive from Hargeisa, so make sure to leave early. Once you reach Berbera, head straight to Batalaale Beach for a swim in the crystal-clear waters.
In the evening, stroll through the old part of the town to see colonial-era architecture. Berbera’s history as a trading hub is still visible in its streets.
Day 9: Diving in the Gulf of Aden
If you’re into diving or snorkeling, today is the day to explore Berbera’s marine life. The Gulf of Aden is rich with coral, fish, and even sea turtles. Several local operators offer reasonably priced excursions.

If diving isn’t your thing, just relax on the beach or hire a boat for a short trip along the coastline.
Day 10: Sheikh Mountains
Take a scenic drive to the mountainous town of Sheikh. This peaceful town, surrounded by rugged landscapes, is perfect for hiking. You can also visit the historical ruins of Ferdusa, an ancient trading city nearby.
Return to Berbera in the late afternoon in time to take a sunset walk along the coast.

Day 11: Back to Hargeisa
Head back to Hargeisa and take the time to revisit your favorite spots or visit more of the city’s markets. If you missed Laas Geel earlier, you could plan an extra trip today.
If there’s time, go see the Hargeisa Camel Market. It’s a bustling market where you’ll get a chance to learn more about camel trading, which plays a big role in Somali culture.
Day 12: Fly to Kismayo
Catch a flight to Kismayo, a southern port city. The small city is known for its rich fishing industry, palm trees, and relaxing vibes. Spend your day walking on the sandy beaches, exploring the old harbor, and chatting with the fishermen.
In the evening, enjoy the fresh seafood caught that day—it doesn’t get any better than this.
Day 13: Kismayo Markets
Take a guided trip around Kismayo’s local markets. Arguably less crowded than Mogadishu, Kismayo’s markets are great for finding spices, textiles, and souvenirs.
It’s another chilled-out day that allows you to interact with the locals, learn more about trade here, and have some downtime before your final travel leg.
Day 14: Return to Mogadishu
End your trip with a brief return to Mogadishu. Spend the day relaxing, revisiting your favorite spots, or simply enjoying your last hours on Liido Beach.
In the evening, get ready for your flight back home, taking with you unforgettable memories of Somalia’s rich culture, history, and welcoming spirit.
