South Africa is one of the most diverse and beautiful countries you can visit. From stunning landscapes and vibrant cities to wildlife safaris and rich culture, this country has it all. And with two weeks, you can get a real taste of everything! Here’s how I recommend spending your 14 days in South Africa:
Day 1-2: Arrive in Cape Town and Explore the City
Welcome to Cape Town, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Spend your first day getting settled and taking in the views from Table Mountain. You can hike up if you’re feeling adventurous or take the cable car for a relaxing ride.
On your second day, wander around the V&A Waterfront, visit the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, and stroll along Sea Point promenade. For dinner, try local favorites like Cape Malay curry or fresh seafood.
Day 3: Head to Cape Peninsula
Spend the day exploring the stunning Cape Peninsula. You’ll drive along Chapman’s Peak Drive, one of the most scenic coastal drives in the world. Stop at Boulder’s Beach to see the colony of penguins and visit Cape Point for epic views.
Don’t forget to stop at one of the beachfront seafood restaurants along the way for some fresh calamari or fish and chips.
Day 4-5: Wine Tasting in Stellenbosch
Escape the city and head to the famous Stellenbosch wine region. The vineyards here are beautiful and peaceful, making for a relaxed couple of days.
Visit wine estates, sample local varieties like Pinotage, and take in the mountain views. Many of the estates have great restaurants, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy a long, lazy lunch with wine pairings.
Day 6: Drive Along the Garden Route
Start your journey along the Garden Route towards Knysna. The drive along the coast is filled with lush forests, stunning beaches, and cute little towns. Stop in Hermanus if you’re here in whale-watching season or just to take in the views.
Day 7: Explore Knysna and Tsitsikamma
Knysna is known for its lagoon and waterfront, and it’s a great place to spend a relaxing morning. Later, take a drive to Tsitsikamma National Park. If you’re up for adventure, the hiking trails here give you incredible coastal views, and you can even try zip-lining through the forest.
Day 8: Addo Elephant National Park
Head further along the Garden Route to Addo Elephant National Park. Get ready for your first wildlife experience by joining a self-drive or guided safari.
You’ll spot elephants up close along with other wildlife like lions, buffalo, and zebras.
Day 9-10: Safari in Kruger National Park
A trip to South Africa isn’t complete without a safari in the world-famous Kruger National Park. Take an early morning flight to Nelspruit or Johannesburg and drive to the park.
Spend the next two days on safari, exploring different parts of the massive park. You’ll have a great chance of seeing the “Big Five.” Stay in a lodge or camp inside the park for an immersive wilderness experience.
Day 11: Visit Soweto in Johannesburg
After leaving the park, head to Johannesburg for a day exploring Soweto. This township is packed with history and culture. Visit the Hector Pieterson Museum and Nelson Mandela’s house to learn about the country’s struggle against apartheid.
Day 12-13: Relax in Durban
Fly to Durban, South Africa’s sunny beach city. Spend your days lounging on the Golden Mile, dipping into the Indian Ocean, or trying your hand at surfing. Durban is also famous for its Indian-inspired food like bunny chow, a local favorite you can’t pass up!
Day 14: Depart from Johannesburg or Cape Town
End your trip by heading back to Johannesburg or Cape Town for your flight home. If you still have some time, take it easy by shopping for souvenirs or having a final meal at one of the city’s many fantastic restaurants.
