Day 1: Arrive in Kampala
You’ve just landed in Uganda! After a long flight, settle into your hotel in Kampala, the capital city. Wander through the bustling streets, visit the local markets like Nakasero Market, and get your first taste of Ugandan street food—Rolex, a delicious rolled-up chapati with eggs. In the evening, relax at a café or bar around Kololo Hill.
Day 2: Explore Kampala
Spend the day exploring Kampala at a slower pace. Visit the Uganda National Museum to learn about the country’s history. You can also check out the Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage site that holds royal Buganda graves. End your day on a relaxing note with a stroll in the Lubiri Palace gardens.
Day 3: Get to Jinja – Source of the Nile
Head to Jinja, the adventure capital of East Africa. It takes around two hours to get there from Kampala. Take a boat ride to see the actual source of the Nile, where it starts its long journey to Egypt. Adventure seekers can also enjoy white-water rafting on the Nile. After all the excitement, wind down with a sunset view over the river.
Day 4: Jinja – Adventure Day
This day is all about adrenaline. Try bungee jumping over the Nile or go for some quad biking through the nearby villages. If you prefer something quieter, take a horseback safari to explore the picturesque countryside. In the evening, relax at a riverside lodge with a cold Nile Special beer.
Day 5: Relaxation Day in Jinja
After a couple of days of adventure, take it easy. Spend your day lounging by the Nile, do a morning yoga session, or take a short hiking trail near the river. You deserve some downtime before the next leg of your adventure.
Day 6: Head to Murchison Falls National Park
Drive up to Murchison Falls National Park, about a 5-6 hour trip from Jinja. The park is famous for the powerful Murchison Falls, where the Nile squeezes through a narrow gorge. Check into a lodge near the falls and take it easy for the evening.
Day 7: Safari in Murchison Falls National Park
It’s an early start today! Head into the park on a safari game drive to spot elephants, lions, giraffes, and hippos. After your drive, take a river cruise to the base of Murchison Falls where you’ll see even more wildlife, including crocodiles and countless bird species.
Day 8: Travel to Kibale National Park
Leave Murchison Falls behind and make your way towards Kibale National Park. The drive is a long one—about 7 hours—but you’ll pass through charming towns and lush landscapes, making it easier to enjoy the journey. Once you arrive, you should relax and prepare for chimpanzee trekking the next day.
Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale National Park
After an early breakfast, head into the forest for a half-day of chimpanzee trekking. Kibale is the best place in Uganda to spot chimps in the wild. Watch them swinging through the trees and playing on the forest floor. After the trek, spend the afternoon unwinding at your lodge.
Day 10: Crater Lakes and Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary
Today, check out the nearby crater lakes and their serene beauty. Visit Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary in the afternoon to spot more wildlife, including different species of monkeys and hundreds of bird species. It’s a haven for nature lovers.
Day 11: Journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park
Get ready for another safari. Today, head to Queen Elizabeth National Park, about a 3-hour drive from Kibale. This park is home to the famous tree-climbing lions. Spend your day on an afternoon safari drive and end with a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where you can spot hippos, buffalo, and birds by the water’s edge.
Day 12: Explore Queen Elizabeth National Park
Start your morning with another game drive and spot more wildlife. Don’t forget to look up for those lions relaxing in fig trees. In the afternoon, take some time to relax or visit a nearby fishing village for some cultural interaction. Learn how locals live by catching fish in the park’s waters.
Day 13: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Make your way to Bwindi, a renowned UNESCO World Heritage Site, home to about half of the world’s mountain gorillas. Expect a five-hour drive through breathtaking scenery. Once in Bwindi, take it easy as you’ll need your energy for gorilla trekking.
Day 14: Gorilla Trekking
This is the big day! You’ll wake up early to join a guided trek into the thick forest, searching for mountain gorillas. It can take anywhere from 2 to 8 hours, but when you finally spot them, the experience is unforgettable. Spend an hour observing these majestic creatures before making your way back. Celebrate your final night in Uganda with a special meal at your lodge.
