Day 1: Arrive in Vientiane
Welcome to Laos! Start your trip in the capital city, Vientiane. After you arrive and settle into your hotel, take it easy today. Get familiar with the surroundings by strolling along the Mekong River. You’ll find plenty of street vendors selling local snacks and cold drinks.
In the evening, head to the riverside night market. It’s perfect for picking up some souvenirs or grabbing something to eat. Try a traditional Lao dish like “larb” or “khao piak sen,” a hearty noodle soup.
Day 2: Explore Vientiane’s Temples and Landmarks
Today’s all about seeing the city’s most famous spots. Start your morning with a visit to the Patuxai Monument, which resembles a mini Arc de Triomphe with a Lao twist. You can climb to the top for great views over the city.
Next, head over to Wat Si Saket, Vientiane’s oldest temple, and admire its thousands of Buddha statues. Afterward, visit the That Luang Stupa, a national symbol covered in gold leaf.
In the afternoon, relax with a traditional Lao massage at one of the local spas. End your day with a sunset view from one of the many rooftop bars along the Mekong.
Day 3: Travel to Vang Vieng
This morning, catch a bus or hire a private cab to Vang Vieng. It’s a scenic 4-hour ride through the countryside. When you arrive, check into your accommodation and take some time to relax by the river.

In the evening, take a leisurely walk around the town. You’ll see many cafes and Western-style restaurants, perfect for unwinding after your journey. Don’t miss the sunset over the karst mountains—it’s stunning.
Day 4: Outdoor Adventures in Vang Vieng
Vang Vieng is an adventure lover’s paradise. Start your day with a hot air balloon ride over the stunning limestone ridges and green valleys of the area. It’s an unforgettable way to see the landscape.
For the afternoon, rent a tube and float down the Nam Song River. It’s a super relaxing way to soak in the scenery. You can also stop at riverside bars along the way to enjoy cold drinks.
After tubing, explore the nearby caves and lagoons. Tham Chang Cave is one of the most popular and offers amazing views from inside.
Day 5: More Time in Vang Vieng
Spend another day enjoying the natural beauty of Vang Vieng. Today, you could rent a motorbike or bicycle to venture farther out of town. Visit the Blue Lagoon, a popular spot with crystal-clear water, where you can swim and zipline.
You could also hike up to the top of one of the nearby hills to get a panoramic view of the stunning karst landscape. In the evening, catch one more Vang Vieng sunset while you relax by the riverside.
Day 6: Travel to Luang Prabang
Grab an early bus for the ride to Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage City that’s about 6-7 hours away. It’s a long drive, but the scenery will keep you captivated. Arrive in the late afternoon, and take some time to rest before exploring the town.

For dinner, head to the night market. It’s an excellent place to sample street food like “khao soi” (noodle soup with minced pork) or “mok pa” (steamed fish wrapped in banana leaves).
Day 7: Temple Hopping in Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang is full of beautiful temples. Start your day at the Royal Palace Museum, where you can learn about the history of the region and see some impressive artifacts.
Next, head to Wat Xieng Thong, the city’s most famous and intricate temple. The mosaic details here are stunning. Afterward, visit the Bamboo Bridge, a seasonal structure that allows you to cross the Nam Khan River.
In the evening, hike up Mount Phousi for a spectacular sunset over the town. On your way down, stop by Wat Chom Si to light an incense stick as a wish for safe travels.

Day 8: Kuang Si Waterfalls
Today’s a day trip to the Kuang Si Waterfalls, located about 45 minutes outside of town. The falls are multi-tiered and absolutely gorgeous. There are several pools where you can swim, so bring your swimsuit.
While you’re here, visit the nearby Bear Rescue Center. They care for rescued moon bears, and it’s an educational and heartwarming stop. Make sure to bring cash for donations or souvenirs from their shop.
Return to Luang Prabang by mid-afternoon and spend your evening checking out more of the night market or relaxing with a small river cruise along the Mekong.

Day 9: Pak Ou Caves
Take a slow boat trip up the Mekong River to visit the Pak Ou Caves. These caves are carved into the limestone cliffs and house thousands of Buddha statues. It’s a serene and spiritual place, and the scenic journey along the river makes it even more special.
On your way back to Luang Prabang, stop by a local whisky village and see how traditional Lao Lao whisky is made. Yes, you can sample some, too!
Once back, enjoy your final evening in Luang Prabang by visiting one more temple or trying your hand at a cooking class to learn how to make sticky rice and other Lao dishes.
Day 10: Departure
It’s sadly time to leave. If you have time before your flight, take one last walk through Luang Prabang’s charming streets. Grab a coffee at one of the many cafes overlooking the Mekong.
If you’re flying home from Vientiane, catch a domestic flight out of Luang Prabang to save time. It’s been an amazing 10 days in Laos, filled with adventure, relaxation, and culture.
