14-Day Itinerary for Exploring Pakistan

Day 1: Arrival in Islamabad

Touch down in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad. Once you clear immigration, you’ll quickly notice how green the city is. Check into your hotel, freshen up, and take it easy today. Spend the evening exploring the markets in Jinnah Supermarket or grab some food at Monal Restaurant, where you’ll have incredible views of the city.

Day 2: Exploring Islamabad

Get an early start by hiking to Daman-e-Koh, a popular viewpoint in the Margalla Hills. After that, head to Faisal Mosque, one of the largest mosques in the world. The architecture is stunning, and it’s one of the city’s main landmarks.

In the afternoon, stroll around Lok Virsa Museum to dive into Pakistan’s cultural heritage. End the day with some relaxation at Fatima Jinnah Park, a huge space to unwind.

Day 3: Drive to Murree

Leave Islamabad behind and head to Murree, a picturesque hill station about two hours away. The winding roads will reveal beautiful mountain views.

Once in Murree, check out Mall Road—a bustling street filled with local shops and eateries. It’s great for people-watching and enjoying the cool mountain air. Relax in a cozy mountain hotel in the evening.

Day 4: Explore Patriata and Nathia Gali

Take a day trip to Patriata, where you can ride the famous cable car for breathtaking views of the forest and mountains. It takes you up to an even higher point in the hills.

Next, visit Nathia Gali, a charming small town further into the mountains. Nathia Gali is less touristy and perfect for quiet walks in nature.

Return to Murree in the evening for some local food.

Day 5: Drive to Naran

After breakfast, start your journey to Naran in the Kaghan Valley. The drive is around seven hours, but it’s worth every minute. The snow-capped mountains and lush valleys make the ride absolutely stunning.

Once you arrive in Naran, settle in and take a stroll along the riverbanks. It’s a peaceful way to end your day after a long drive.

Day 6: Visit Saif-ul-Malook Lake

Today, head to Lake Saif-ul-Malook, a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by dramatic peaks. You can take a jeep ride to the lake, or if you’re up for an adventure, hike all the way up!

At the lake, hire a boat for a quick paddle or simply sit back and admire the natural beauty. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in Naran.

Day 7: Babusar Pass and Hunza Valley

Hit the road early and drive up to Babusar Pass, the highest point on the Naran-Kaghan road. You’ll feel like you’re on top of the world as you gaze across the snow-capped peaks.

Then, descend into the Hunza Valley, arguably one of the most beautiful places in Pakistan. Arrive in Karimabad, where you’ll be spending the night.

Day 8: Explore Karimabad, Baltit Fort

Spend the day roaming around Karimabad. Start with a visit to Baltit Fort, a centuries-old structure that offers incredible views of the valley. The fort is one of the top tourist sites in Hunza.

In the afternoon, walk around the village of Karimabad. Explore the local markets and enjoy some Hunza-style apricots, walnuts, and honey.

Day 9: Day Trip to Hoper Glacier in Nagar Valley

Hunza’s neighbor, Nagar Valley, is just as scenic. Drive to Hoper Glacier, a jaw-dropping spot where you can see massive ice fields and towering mountains. It’s less crowded than some famous glaciers in the region, making it a fantastic spot for some peaceful reflection.

In the evening, return to Karimabad to relax and soak up the mountain vibes.

Day 10: Drive to Skardu

Pack up and prepare for a scenic journey to Skardu, the gateway to the Karakoram Range and some of Pakistan’s tallest mountains. The drive will take around six hours, with beautiful river views along the way. Check into your hotel in Skardu once you arrive.

In the evening, head to Upper Kachura Lake for a peaceful sunset by the water. You can even take a boat ride here.

Day 11: Shigar and Khaplu

Today, drive to Shigar, home to Shigar Fort. This restored fort is now a museum and a hotel, but it’s an interesting dive into local history.

Afterwards, head to Khaplu, a small town that offers another beautiful fort and serene landscapes. Return to Skardu in the evening for some rest and relaxation.

Day 12: Satpara Lake and Deosai National Park

In the morning, visit Satpara Lake, a tranquil spot surrounded by mountains. It’s a great place to breathe in the fresh air before embarking on a day trip to Deosai National Park.

Deosai is one of the highest plateaus in the world and is famous for its wildlife, including the Himalayan brown bear. You’ll feel like you’re walking on another planet. Spend the day hiking, enjoying the views, and snapping photos before returning to Skardu.

Day 13: Return to Islamabad

Today, you’ll make your way back to Islamabad. If you’re flying, you can catch a domestic flight, which takes less than two hours.

If you’d prefer the scenic road route, it’s about a 16-hour drive, so you might stop over in towns like Besham or Naran again to break up the trip.

Day 14: Departure

Spend your last morning in Islamabad picking up any final souvenirs or just relaxing at your hotel. In the afternoon, head to the airport for your flight home.

It’s been an incredible two weeks filled with mountains, culture, and unforgettable experiences!
