Day 1: Arrival in Riyadh
Welcome to Saudi Arabia! Your adventure starts in Riyadh, the kingdom’s capital and a major hub of culture and history. Arrive, settle into your accommodation, and take it easy after your flight.
In the evening, head out to explore the Al-Murabba Palace and its nearby museums. The palace offers a unique glimpse into the history of Saudi Arabia. Take a stroll in the surrounding gardens while watching the sunset over this beautiful city.
If you’re still feeling energized, head to Tahlia Street for some local dining. This street has plenty of cafes and restaurants serving authentic Saudi cuisine, so it’s a great place to start savoring local flavors.
Day 2: Explore Riyadh’s History and Culture
Start your day early with a visit to the National Museum of Saudi Arabia. The museum’s exhibitions cover everything from ancient civilizations to Islamic history. It will give you a great foundation for the rest of your trip.
Afterward, head over to Diriyah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area was the original home of the Saudi royal family and served as the capital of the first Saudi State. Walk through the restored mudbrick buildings and let the history soak in.
In the evening, relax at King Abdullah Park, where you’ll find greenery and fountains. It’s the perfect place to unwind after a busy day of exploring.
Day 3: The Edge of the World
Time to leave the city for an incredible adventure: The Edge of the World. Pack plenty of water and snacks because this stunning cliff just outside Riyadh is a must-see. The journey takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, but the endless panoramic view over the Arabian desert is worth it.
You can book a day tour or go by yourself if you’re comfortable with off-road driving. Either way, the quietness of the desert and the view will give you a new appreciation for nature.
Return to Riyadh in the evening, and consider taking it easy with a simple dinner.
Day 4: Riyadh to Jeddah
On Day 4, catch a short flight to Jeddah, about two hours from Riyadh. Jeddah, a coastal city by the Red Sea, is known for its unique art, beaches, and cosmopolitan vibes.
Start your Jeddah exploration by heading to the Jeddah Corniche. It’s a vast waterfront area with parks and beaches. Stroll along and take in the views of the Red Sea, or stop at one of the many cafes for a drink.
In the evening, visit Al-Balad, Jeddah’s historical district. Wander through the old stone streets, explore the bustling markets, and see the coral stone buildings that make this area unique.
Day 5: Discover Jeddah’s Depths
Start your day by exploring Jeddah’s famous floating mosque. Built right by the sea, the mosque can seem like it is floating depending on the tide—and it’s a significant cultural site.
Later on, if you’re into diving or snorkeling, head to one of Jeddah’s many diving spots. The Red Sea has incredible marine life and some of the best diving in the region. Even if diving isn’t your thing, spend part of the day at a private beach for swimming and relaxing.
In the evening, find a local seafood restaurant. Jeddah is famous for seafood, so take advantage of some fresh Red Sea catch.
Day 6: Fly to Al-Ula
After breakfast, catch a flight to Al-Ula. This town in northwestern Saudi Arabia is home to some of the country’s most beautiful ancient ruins.
Once you arrive and check in, go for a relaxing walk around the town. In the evening, consider visiting the Mirror Maraya, a stunning structure covered in mirrors that reflect the desert. It’s a great spot to see both modern and traditional art installations.
Day 7: Exploring Al-Ula’s Ancient Sites
Start your day with a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hegra (also known as Madain Salih). It’s Saudi Arabia’s answer to Petra in Jordan. Wander among the giant tombs carved into stone that date back to the Nabatean Kingdom.
In the afternoon, head to Dadan, an ancient archaeological site that was a vital city thousands of years ago. Nearby, at Jebel Ikmah, you’ll find ancient inscriptions etched into rock walls.
As the sun sets, go on a desert tour to see Al-Ula’s other famous rock formations like The Elephant Rock. The softer light in the evening makes the desert landscape even more magical.
Day 8: Al-Ula to Abha
On Day 8, fly down to Abha, a city known for its green mountains and cooler temperatures, offering a different vibe from the desert cities so far.
Spend your afternoon exploring Abha’s old town, where you’ll see traditional architecture. Don’t miss the Al-Muftaha Village, an artist community where you can discover local artwork.
Right before sunset, head to Jebel Souda, Saudi’s highest peak. The view over the mountains is breathtaking as the sun dips, and the drive itself reveals beautiful landscapes.
Day 9: Explore Asir National Park
Today is all about nature. Asir National Park is one of the few mountainous regions in Saudi Arabia and offers cooler temperatures, greenery, and beautiful hiking trails.
You can take a cable car ride or just relax at one of the picnic spots. The park is perfect if you’re seeking a balance of adventure and relaxation. Don’t forget your camera because the mountain views are exceptional.
In the evening, head back to Abha and try a local specialty for dinner, like Aseedah or Jareesh, at a traditional restaurant.
Day 10: Departure
Your 10-day adventure exploring Saudi Arabia is now coming to an end. If your flight is later, spend a bit more time wandering Abha or visiting any nearby markets to pick up some last-minute souvenirs.
With everything packed and memories made, head to the airport for your flight back home.
