7-Day Saudi Arabia Itinerary
Saudi Arabia is a captivating destination with a mix of history, culture, and natural wonders. In a country that’s only recently opened its doors to mainstream tourism, there is a lot to see—and it doesn’t have to be rushed. This 7-day itinerary gives you a well-rounded experience of exploring the Kingdom. Here’s how you can cover a selection of key cities and top attractions without feeling overwhelmed.
Day 1: Riyadh – Arrival and City Exploration
Once you arrive in Riyadh, the Kingdom’s capital, take it easy the first day. You’ll want to get over any jet lag. Depending on your arrival time, start by visiting some of the city’s highlights.
National Museum and King Abdulaziz Historical Center
The National Museum is a great introduction to Saudi history and culture. You’ll learn about ancient civilizations, pre-Islamic times, and the unification of Saudi Arabia. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours here.
Masmak Fortress
After the museum, head to Masmak Fortress. This 19th-century mud-brick fort has seen many battles and represents an important part of the country’s history. The restoration makes it easy to visualize Saudi Arabia’s past.
Kingdom Centre
End the day by visiting the Kingdom Centre. It’s a modern contrast—essentially the symbol of present-day Riyadh. Head up to the Sky Bridge for panoramic views of the city, especially at night when the lights are stunning.
Day 2: Riyadh – Excursion to Edge of the World
Today, step out into nature with a day trip to the famous Edge of the World (Jebel Fihrayn).

A little over an hour from Riyadh, this spectacular cliff offers dramatic views over an endless desert plain. It’s one of the most popular day trips from Riyadh and the perfect place for a hike or even just a serene picnic.
Sunset
Try to plan your visit to coincide with sunset—it’s hard to beat the beauty of watching the sun dip beyond the cliffs. Remember to bring plenty of water and snacks, as there aren’t many facilities here.
Return to Riyadh in the evening and relax after a long day outdoors.
Day 3: Riyadh to Al Ula
Catch an early flight to Al Ula, a stunning ancient desert town. This place feels like another world, and it’s one of Saudi Arabia’s most talked-about destinations right now.
Explore Al Ula Old Town
Your first stop should be Al Ula Old Town, once an important stop on the incense trading route. Walk through narrow alleyways, see restored mudbrick buildings, and learn about the town’s fascinating history.
Giant Rock Formations
After exploring the town, check out some of the famous rock formations. Elephant Rock is a popular one—a huge natural formation that resembles an elephant. You can also just wander the desert as there are several fascinating rocks scattered around.
Day 4: Al Ula – Hegra Archaeological Site
Today is dedicated to exploring Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hegra (Madain Salih)
The ancient Nabatean city of Hegra is often called the “Petra of Saudi Arabia” but with far fewer crowds. The rock-carved tombs here are incredibly well-preserved. You’ll need a local guide to enter, but it’s definitely worth it. Spend your day walking among tombs and learning about the Nabataean civilization.
Optional: Desert Camp
If you want something unique, consider spending the night at one of the desert camps around Al Ula. These luxury camps offer stargazing opportunities you just can’t get in a city.
Day 5: Al Ula to Jeddah
After breakfast, take a flight to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea port city and a great mix of historical charm with a modern vibe.
Explore Al Balad (Old Jeddah)
On your first day in Jeddah, dive into Al Balad, a UNESCO-listed historical area. Stroll through the old town’s narrow streets lined with coral-stone buildings. Many traditional houses have been restored and turned into museums, so there’s plenty to discover here.
King Fahd’s Fountain
Later in the day, head down to the Corniche to see King Fahd’s Fountain, the tallest fountain in the world. It shoots water 300 meters into the air, which is especially eye-catching at sunset or at night when it’s lit up.
Day 6: Jeddah – Relax by the Red Sea
After several busy days, today is all about relaxing by the Red Sea. Jeddah’s coast is beautiful, and you can either take it easy or get out on the water.
Snorkeling or Diving in the Red Sea

Day 7: Jeddah – Souqs and Departure
Spend your final day exploring Jeddah’s famous souqs and grabbing last-minute souvenirs before catching your flight home.
Souq Al Alawi
This is the oldest and largest market in the city and a great place to find traditional handicrafts, spices, and textiles. Expect to haggle (it’s part of the experience), and you’ll find some real gems to take home.
Optional: Visit the Floating Mosque
If you have extra time, head to the northern part of Jeddah to visit the Floating Mosque. At high tide, it appears to float on the water and offers a peaceful setting for reflection and photos.
