Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok
Welcome to Thailand! Start your journey by arriving in Bangkok, Thailand’s bustling capital. After getting settled in, head out for some exploration. First, visit the iconic Wat Pho Temple, home to the giant reclining Buddha.
In the evening, check out Khao San Road. It’s touristy, but great for getting your initial bearings, grabbing street food, and meeting other travelers.
Day 2: Explore the Best of Bangkok
Kick off the day early and head to the Grand Palace. It’s one of the most visited sites in Thailand, and it can get crowded, so aim for an early start. Don’t miss the Temple of the Emerald Buddha inside.
In the afternoon, visit Chatuchak Market if you’re there over a weekend. It’s one of the largest markets in the world with everything from clothes to local arts and crafts.
Finish off your day with a sunset river cruise on the Chao Phraya River for a great view of the city.
Day 3: Bangkok Off-the-Beaten-Path
Take a break from the tourist hot spots and visit some lesser-known places. Head over to the Jim Thompson House, a peaceful museum dedicated to the American businessman who helped revive the silk industry in Thailand.
Later, get lost in the Thonburi neighborhood. It’s quieter than central Bangkok and gives you a more local feel. Explore the local canals, visit smaller temples, and enjoy a more relaxed day.
Day 4: Ayutthaya Day Trip
Take a day trip to Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand, which is about an hour outside of Bangkok. You can either take a guided tour or explore it on your own by bike.
Visit some of the historical ruins like Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the iconic Buddha head entwined in tree roots at Wat Mahathat. The site is huge, so plan to spend the full day here.
Day 5: Travel to Chiang Mai
Today, catch a flight or an overnight train to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. It’s a city known for its temples, history, and laid-back atmosphere.
Once you’ve arrived and checked in, spend the day at your leisure. Stroll through the Old City or relax at one of the many cafés. You’ve earned it after a few days of busy exploring!
Day 6: Chiang Mai’s Temples
Start your day with a visit to Doi Suthep Temple, which sits atop a mountain overlooking the city. Climb the 300 steps to the entrance and enjoy the panoramic views.
In the afternoon, explore some of the many temples in town like Wat Phra Singh or Wat Chedi Luang. Chiang Mai is known for its beautiful temples, so take your time here.
Day 7: Elephant Sanctuary or Thai Cooking Class
Today you have two great options. Either head to an ethical elephant sanctuary to spend the day caring for and interacting with elephants or sign up for a Thai cooking class to learn how to prepare some of Thailand’s most delicious dishes.
Both options will give you a deeper look into Thailand’s rich culture, and by the end of the day, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories or culinary skills to bring home.
Day 8: Adventure Near Chiang Mai
If you’re feeling energetic, head out for a day of adventure. Go zip-lining in the jungle, white-water rafting, or take a trek in Northern Thailand’s stunning mountainous region.
Otherwise, take things slow. You’ve been traveling a lot, so enjoy a massage or relax by one of the city’s many pools. Chiang Mai is also famous for its cafes, so veg out with a good book in hand.
Day 9: Travel to Pai
Next, head out of town to Pai, a small town about 3 hours from Chiang Mai. You can get there by minivan or rented motorbike if you’re feeling adventurous.
Pai is all about nature. It’s a relaxed place with cool mountain air, and on arrival, you’ll notice just how chill things are. Take the evening to relax and unwind—you’ve earned it.
Day 10: Enjoying Pai’s Scenic Beauty
In the morning, rent a scooter to explore the countryside. Visit the Pai Canyon, which offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, and the Pam Bok Waterfall for a refreshing swim.
Later on, relax in the Tha Pai Hot Springs or wander through the town’s famous night market. The pace of life here is slow, and you’ll likely lose track of time.
Day 11: Return to Chiang Mai and Flight to Krabi
Time to head back to Chiang Mai and catch a flight down south to Krabi. You’re headed to the beach now!
Upon arrival in Krabi, check into your hotel and spend the evening relaxing. Walk along the beach, dip your toes in the Andaman Sea, and prepare for a more relaxed leg of your trip.
Day 12: Island Hopping Around Krabi
Krabi is known for its famous islands, so today is all about island hopping. Join a tour to explore some of the region’s best spots like Phi Phi Islands or Hong Island.
You’ll have opportunities to swim, snorkel, and simply take in the beauty of the turquoise waters and towering limestone cliffs. End the day with fresh seafood at a beachside restaurant.
Day 13: Railay Beach and Relaxation
Devote this day to pure relaxation. Head to Railay Beach, accessible only by boat. It’s famous for its beautiful cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and peaceful vibe.
You can also take up some rock climbing here if you’re into it—it’s one of the best places in the world for climbing. Otherwise, kick back on the sand and enjoy your last full day in paradise.
Day 14: Return to Bangkok and Departure
On your final day, head back to Bangkok either via a short flight from Krabi or by bus and plane. If you have some extra time before your flight home, finish by visiting the floating markets outside of town or doing any final shopping around the area.
Then, it’s time to head to the airport and say goodbye to wonderful Thailand—for now. Safe travels!
