Day 1: Explore Nicosia – The Capital City
Your journey in Cyprus starts in Nicosia, the island’s divided capital. Begin your day by walking through the old town. The streets are lined with charming shops, cafes, and historic buildings. Make time to visit the Cyprus Museum, which offers exhibits covering the island’s long and varied history.
Once you’ve gotten your culture fix, head to Ledra Street. This is the main pedestrian street, and you can even cross over to the Turkish-controlled northern part of the city here. Bring your passport, and you’ll easily pass through the border checkpoint to explore the northern side for a unique view of the city.
In the afternoon, stop at Büyük Han. This 16th-century caravanserai is one of the most well-preserved Ottoman monuments in Cyprus. It’s now home to cafes and craft shops, making it perfect for a coffee break before continuing your exploration of Northern Nicosia.
For dinner, head back to Southern Nicosia and enjoy a traditional Cypriot meal at one of the many local tavernas. The grilled halloumi and mezze dishes won’t disappoint!
Day 2: Discover the Ruins of Kourion & Limassol
Start your second day with a trip to Kourion, one of Cyprus’ most important archaeological sites. Located near the sea, this ancient city offers stunning views of the Mediterranean. Spend a couple of hours wandering through the ruins. Don’t miss the well-preserved mosaics or the impressive Greco-Roman theater, which still hosts performances today.
After you’re done exploring Kourion, head to Limassol, which is about 20 minutes away by car. Limassol is known for its beachside promenade, marina, and medieval castle. Spend some time walking along the coast, grabbing a coffee at one of the local cafes, or dipping your toes in the sea.
In the afternoon, make your way over to Limassol’s Old Town. It’s a mix of old and new, with historic buildings alongside modern shops and restaurants. If you’re hungry, try out some fresh seafood at a local fish tavern.
For a relaxing end to your day, head back to the marina. Order a drink and watch the sunset over the Mediterranean.
Day 3: Troodos Mountains & Omodos Village
It’s time to leave the coast and head inland to the Troodos Mountains. This region is perfect for nature lovers. Make sure to stop by Mount Olympus, the highest peak in Cyprus, and take in the sweeping views of the surrounding landscape. If you’re up for a bit of hiking, there are plenty of trails, ranging from easy to more challenging routes.
In the afternoon, visit Omodos, a lovely traditional village in the foothills of the Troodos Mountains. Stroll through the old cobblestone streets, explore the beautiful Monastery of the Holy Cross, and enjoy a wine tasting at one of the local wineries. Omodos is famous for its local wine, and the village’s relaxed pace makes it a great place to unwind.
End your day with a hearty, traditional mountain meal at one of the local tavernas in Omodos. Expect to see a lot of meat dishes like souvla and kleftiko, slow-cooked to perfection.
Day 4: History & Mythology in Paphos
Head west to Paphos, a city famous for its ancient sites and mythology. Start your day at the Paphos Archaeological Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to many ancient ruins, including stunning mosaics depicting Greek myths. You’ll need a few hours to explore, so bring water and sunscreen since it can get quite hot.
After the park, take a short drive to the Tombs of the Kings. This ancient burial site, dating back to the 4th century BC, is carved into solid rock. It’s an impressive place to wander and soak in the ancient atmosphere.
In the afternoon, head down to the harbor area. Grab lunch at one of the seaside restaurants and enjoy the relaxed vibe of the city. If you’re interested in some more history, you can visit the Paphos Castle at the water’s edge.
Later, drive down to Aphrodite’s Rock, the mythical birthplace of the goddess of love. It’s a beautiful spot for photos and a quick swim if you’re up for it. Evening in Paphos is laid-back, so enjoy your last night in the city with some seafood and wine by the waterfront.
Day 5: Relax in Larnaca
Your final day takes you to Larnaca. This coastal town is a great place to unwind after several busy days. Start the morning at Finikoudes Beach, where you can relax on the sand or take a dip in the warm waters of the Mediterranean.
Once you’ve had your fill of beach time, visit the Church of Saint Lazarus. This 9th-century church is one of Cyprus’ most important religious buildings and has beautiful Byzantine architecture.
For lunch, take a stroll around the town center, and choose a small local restaurant. The seafood here is excellent if you’re still in the mood for it, but you’ll also find other local favorites like souvlaki and sheftalia (grilled sausage).
After lunch, you can check out Larnaca Salt Lake if you’re visiting in winter. This seasonal lake becomes a resting spot for migrating flamingos.
End your day with a walk along the promenade or take a stroll through the nearby marina. It’s the perfect way to unwind and reflect on your trip.
