Day 1: Arrive in Riga
You’ll probably land in Riga, Latvia’s capital. First things first: give yourself time to adjust after your flight.
Stroll around the Old Town. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site with cobblestone streets, pastel-colored buildings, and plenty of history. Check out Riga Cathedral and stop by House of the Blackheads.
At night, grab dinner at a local spot like Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs, where you can try traditional Latvian food.
Day 2: Explore Riga’s Historic Center
Now that you’re settled in, it’s time to dive deeper into Riga. Start with the Central Market. It’s housed in old Zeppelin hangars and is one of the largest markets in Europe!
Afterward, visit the Art Nouveau district. Over a third of Riga’s buildings are Art Nouveau, making it one of the best-preserved cities for architecture lovers.
In the afternoon, head to the Latvian National Museum of Art for a taste of the country’s rich cultural history.
Day 3: Take a Day Trip to Jurmala
Take a short trip to Jurmala, about 25 kilometers west of Riga. It’s famous for its long, sandy beaches and massive pine forests. You can walk along Jomas Street, the town’s main drag, or simply relax by the beach.
Have lunch at a seaside café. Then, head back to Riga in the late afternoon.
Day 4: Riga’s Parks and Outdoor Spaces
Today, slow things down a bit. Start your morning by exploring Riga’s beautiful parks. Begin with Bastejkalna Park, where you can take a scenic boat ride on the canal.
Make your way to the Freedom Monument; it’s a symbol of Latvia’s independence. Nearby is Kronvalda Park, which is perfect for a quiet stroll.
For dinner, try Restaurant 3, where the focus is on wild foraged ingredients.
Day 5: Head North to Sigulda
Time to leave Riga and head north. Sigulda is less than an hour away, and it’s known for its stunning nature and centuries-old castles.
Start with a visit to Turaida Museum Reserve. It includes Turaida Castle, one of the most famous in Latvia. Don’t miss the incredible views from the top!
Take a walk through Gauja National Park in the afternoon. If you’re up for it, there are great hiking trails to explore.
Day 6: Explore Gauja National Park
Spend the day out in nature, fully exploring Gauja National Park. There are forests, caves, and rivers to discover.
Take a trip to Gutmanis Cave, the largest in the Baltics. In the afternoon, you can rent a canoe for a peaceful ride on the Gauja River or go zip-lining at Tarzans Adventure Park if you’re feeling adventurous.
Day 7: Visit Cesis
Cesis is another town surrounded by beautiful nature inside Gauja National Park. Check out Cesis Castle, which dates back to the 13th century.
Stroll through the town’s quaint streets, and relax at a café in the main square. End your day watching the sunset at nearby Raiskums Lake.
Day 8: Head to Kuldiga
Today, you’ll head west to Kuldiga. This small town is often overlooked but is home to the widest waterfall in Europe: Venta Rapid. Spend some time walking along the river and admiring the waterfall.
Wander through the town’s old streets, which are full of charm. End your evening with dinner at Bangerts Restaurant, which overlooks the river.
Day 9: Explore Kuldiga
Start your day with a visit to Kuldiga’s historic center. The architecture here feels a bit frozen in time. Visit the Kuldiga Castle ruins and step back into history.
In the afternoon, enjoy some downtime by the Alekšupīte River, where you can take it easy. Many locals use this time to fish or soak their feet in the cool water.
Day 10: Latvian Countryside in Alsunga
Drive to the village of Alsunga, known for its ancient Suiti culture. Visit the Alsunga Castle, which dates back to the 14th century, and learn about the local traditions.
Try to catch some local folk music—the Suiti people are known for their unique singing style. You can also taste traditional Latvian dishes cooked the old-fashioned way.
Day 11: Coastal Escape in Liepaja
Drive along the coast to Liepaja. This port town is known for its music scene and beautiful beaches. Spend the morning at Karosta Prison for an unusual experience. This former military prison is now a unique museum.
In the afternoon, head to the beach to relax. Liepaja has some of the best stretches of sand in Latvia, and it’s the perfect spot to slow down after all your travels.
Day 12: Day Trip to Pape Nature Park
Take a day trip to Pape Nature Park about an hour from Liepaja. It’s home to wild horses, bison, and rare birds. Bring your camera because the wildlife is incredible.
In the afternoon, head back to Liepaja and check out the Concert Hall Great Amber. This eye-catching building is a hub for performances and events, so if there’s a concert happening, grab a ticket.
Day 13: Ventas Rumba and Talsi
Drive over to Talsi, a hillside town surrounded by lakes and forests. Stop by Ventas Rumba on the way, the largest waterfall in Europe. It’s a peaceful spot to have a picnic.
Talsi is perfect for a slow final day out of the big cities. Wander around its charming streets and enjoy the views over the town’s hills.
Day 14: Return to Riga
Make your way back to Riga to wrap up your adventure. If you have extra time, visit any spots you missed earlier, or spend some time in the lively Kalnciems Quarter.
Enjoy one last dinner at a traditional Latvian restaurant—or go street-food style! Tomorrow, it’s time to head home with some incredible memories.
