Day 1: Arrival in Vilnius
Welcome to Lithuania! Start your journey in Vilnius, the capital city. After you settle into your accommodation, take a stroll through the city center.
Your first stop should be the UNESCO-listed Old Town. Wander its narrow streets, admire the baroque architecture, and stop by Pilies Street for souvenirs or a quick bite to eat.
Later, head to the Gate of Dawn, one of the city’s most sacred sites. End your day relaxing in a local café with some traditional Lithuanian dishes like cepelinai or kibinai.
Day 2: Vilnius – Explore the City’s Highlights
Today, dive deeper into some of Vilnius’s highlights. Start your day visiting the grand Vilnius Cathedral before taking a short walk to the Bell Tower for stunning views across the city.
Next, head up to Gediminas Castle Tower. You can walk or take the funicular. From the top, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Vilnius.
In the afternoon, check out Užupis, the quirky, artist-driven republic. It has its own constitution and offers a more offbeat atmosphere. Explore the galleries, street art, and funky cafes.
Day 3: Day Trip to Trakai
Just 30km from Vilnius, Trakai is an easy day trip and a must-see. The star attraction here is Trakai Island Castle, set on Lake Galvė.
Spend your morning exploring the castle, learning about Lithuania’s history, and then enjoy a boat ride on the lake—it’s a great way to capture the castle from different angles.
Try the local Karaite dish, kibinai, for lunch. It’s a savory pastry that’s popular here. In the evening, head back to Vilnius to relax after a day of exploring.
Day 4: Travel to Kaunas
Today, head to Lithuania’s second-largest city, Kaunas. The bus or train from Vilnius will take about 1.5 hours.
In Kaunas, start by visiting the Old Town, where you can explore historical sites like Kaunas Castle and the Town Hall. Don’t miss the quirky Devil’s Museum either, full of sculptures and artwork dedicated to the devil.
For a fun afternoon, take a walk along Laisvės Alėja, a pedestrian boulevard filled with shops and cafes.
Day 5: Kaunas – Museums and Relaxation
Explore more of Kaunas’s rich culture with a morning visit to the M. K. Čiurlionis Museum, dedicated to Lithuania’s most famous artist and composer.
Then, take a break at Aleksotas Hill. Ride the cable car to the top for amazing views of the city below.
In the afternoon, enjoy a more relaxed pace by walking along the banks of the Nemunas River or visiting some of the nearby parks for a little downtime.
Day 6: Klaipėda and the Curonian Spit
On Day 6, travel to the coastal city of Klaipėda. By bus, it takes about 3 hours from Kaunas. Once you arrive, explore Klaipėda’s charming old town and visit Theater Square, which has a German vibe due to the city’s past.
From Klaipėda, take the ferry to the Curonian Spit, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Rent a bike or walk some of the many trails along the spit, surrounded by dunes and pine forests.
If there’s time, head to the Hill of Witches, an open-air sculpture park featuring wooden carvings from Lithuanian folklore.
Day 7: Nida and More of the Curonian Spit
Spend today exploring Nida, the picturesque village on the Curonian Spit. Famous for its sandy dunes and laid-back vibe, Nida is perfect for a full day of relaxation. Alternatively, you can rent bikes again and explore the trails around the spit at a slow pace.
Take it easy today with some personal down time. Spend time relaxing by the coast or trying some local smoked fish—Nida is known for it.
If you’re feeling adventurous, consider climbing the Parnidis Dune for more exceptional views of the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea.
Day 8: Kryžių Kalnas – The Hill of Crosses
On Day 8, travel to Šiauliai via train or bus (it’s about a 2-hour ride). The big draw here is Kryžių Kalnas, also known as the Hill of Crosses, located 12km north of the town. Covered in over 100,000 crosses, it’s a memorial and pilgrimage site that’s truly unlike anything else you’ll see.
Explore the hill at your leisure, taking in the solemn atmosphere. It’s one of Lithuania’s most significant and moving landmarks, so be sure to take your time and reflect.
Return to Šiauliai for a chilled-out evening or to explore the nearby parks or local restaurants.
Day 9: Druskininkai – Spa Town
Journey to Druskininkai, Lithuania’s famous spa town. Located about 2 hours from Vilnius, this is where you can kick back and relax towards the end of your trip.
After you arrive, head to one of the many spas. Whether you’re looking for mineral baths, massages, or saunas, Druskininkai is the perfect place to pamper yourself.
Once you’ve enjoyed the spas, have a walk through the town’s beautiful parks or along the banks of the Nemunas River for a serene end to the day.
Day 10: Grūtas Park and Departure
For your final day in Lithuania, visit the unique Grūtas Park, just outside of Druskininkai. This Soviet-era sculpture park is a fascinating, if eerie, reminder of Lithuania’s past. It’s filled with statues of Soviet leaders that were removed after Lithuania’s independence.
After your visit, head back to Vilnius for your departure. If time allows, squeeze in one last walk around the lovely Old Town or grab a final meal of local food before heading to the airport ready to say ‘sudie’ (goodbye) to Lithuania.
