Day 1: Arrive in Ljubljana
Start your trip in Slovenia’s capital, Ljubljana. It’s a small but vibrant city that’s perfect for walking around. Take your time to explore the Old Town where you’ll find colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, and the iconic Triple Bridge.
Don’t miss the Ljubljana Castle. You can either hike up to it or take the funicular for great views of the city. Spend some time wandering around the castle’s courtyards and enjoy panoramic views of the entire city below.
In the evening, head to Preseren Square for dinner. There are tons of outdoor cafés here; grab a seat, eat local food, and watch the world go by. Afterward, take a stroll along the Ljubljanica River, where the city’s quirky vibes come to life with street performers and people enjoying the nightlife.
Day 2: Day Trip to Lake Bled
It’s time to visit Lake Bled, just a 45-minute drive from Ljubljana. Famous for its emerald-green lake, a medieval castle, and the picturesque island with a church in the middle, this is one of Slovenia’s top spots.
You can rent a boat or take a pletna (traditional wooden boat) to get to Bled Island. Climb the 99 steps to the Church of the Assumption and ring the wishing bell for good luck!
After the island, visit Bled Castle. Perched high above the lake, it gives you incredible views of the surroundings. Spend time walking around the lake itself; it takes around an hour and a half.
In the afternoon, try Slovenia’s famous Bled Cream Cake (it’s a must!). You can find it almost anywhere around the lake, but Park Hotel is where you’ll get the original recipe.
Day 3: Explore Ljubljana Further or Relax
After a busy day at Lake Bled, keep today flexible. You might want to further explore Ljubljana; visit Tivoli Park, discover more street art, or see Metelkova, Ljubljana’s alternative cultural hub. It’s full of vibrant graffiti, unique sculptures, and bars where the locals hang out.
If you’d rather have a slower morning, enjoy Ljubljana’s café scene at a comfy spot by the river. You can relax, people-watch, or plan the remainder of your trip. Consider visiting the Central Market for fresh produce or local snacks.
Day 4: Day Trip to Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle
Today, take a short day trip to visit Postojna Cave, one of Slovenia’s most famous attractions. The cave is massive and features impressive stalagmites and stalactites. You even get to tour the underground system by a train, which makes it extra fun.
After the cave, make your way to the nearby Predjama Castle. Built into the cliffside, this medieval marvel looks like something from a fantasy novel. Take the tour of the castle’s interior to learn about its history, including tales about legendary knight Erazem of Predjama.
If you have time, stop by the nearby village for a late afternoon snack or try a traditional Slovenian lunch at a local restaurant.
Day 5: Head to Piran
It’s time to head to Slovenia’s coast; drive or take a bus to Piran, a charming seaside town on the Adriatic coast. Piran feels like a mix between a Venetian and a medieval town, and it’s easy to wander around.
Start at Tartini Square, where you’ll see beautiful colorful buildings and can grab some gelato. Next, stroll along the waterfront to admire the views of the Adriatic Sea and relax by the promenade.
For great views of Piran, make your way up to the Church of St. George. The bell tower offers panoramic vistas of the sea and terracotta rooftops below.
Day 6: Explore the Slovenian Coast
Take the day to explore more of Slovenia’s tiny coast. You can pop into neighboring coastal towns like Portorož, which has a few sandy beaches along with a more resort-style feel, or Koper, where old Venetian walls and architecture stand tall.
If you’re feeling more adventurous, rent a bike and ride along the coastline. For something more relaxing, find a seafood restaurant and enjoy some fresh dishes on a terrace facing the sea.
If you have time in the evening, head back to Piran for the sunset. The views over the Adriatic are breathtaking, and there’s nothing quite like watching the sun dip into the horizon from this serene spot.
Day 7: Drive to Soca Valley
Today, get ready for a change of pace. Drive to the stunning Soca Valley, renowned for its emerald-green river and outdoor activities.
The drive alone is scenic, with towering mountains and rivers accompanying you. Once in the valley, find accommodation in or near Bovec, a small town that acts as a base for activities in the area.
Spend the afternoon relaxing or maybe go for a gentle hike near the river. You could also stop by the Great Soca Gorge, which has some stunning viewpoints where you can sit and take in the quiet ambiance of the river.
Day 8: Adventure in Soca Valley
Today’s all about adventure! The Soca Valley is great for rafting, canyoning, zip-lining, and hiking. If you love adrenaline, Soca River rafting is a must-try. The scenery is incredible, and the rapids are fun without being too extreme.
If you’re not up for water activities, head to Kobarid, where you can hike the Kobarid Historical Trail. It blends nature and history with World War I landmarks and the beautiful Kozjak Waterfall along the way.
Another option is to visit the nearby Tolmin Gorges. This easy trail leads you along the turquoise river, under rock formations, and through narrow paths that feel straight out of a fairy tale.
Day 9: Vrsic Pass and Triglav National Park
Pack up from Soca Valley and head over Vrsic Pass, Slovenia’s highest road pass. Stop at various viewpoints along the way to admire the Julian Alps.
Your destination is Triglav National Park, where you’ll find some of Slovenia’s most stunning natural landscapes. Stop for a short hike or take a longer trek if you’re up for it.
One of the best hikes is around Lake Bohinj, a huge glacial lake surrounded by mountains. It’s super peaceful here, and you can even take a swim if the weather’s warm enough.
Day 10: Relax at Lake Bohinj
Spend your last day enjoying the tranquility of Lake Bohinj. Start the day with an easy walk around the lake, or take the Vogel cable car up the mountain for beautiful views of the lake and surrounding peaks.
You can also rent a kayak or paddleboard and spend time on the water. There are plenty of small beaches where you can lay back and take in the mountain air.
In the afternoon, grab some lunch at one of the lakeside restaurants before making your way back to Ljubljana. It’s the perfect way to end your 10-day journey through Slovenia, with nature all around and no stress in sight.
