Day 1: Arrive in Istanbul and Get Settled
Welcome to Turkey! Your two-week adventure kicks off in the incredible city of Istanbul. Upon arrival, check into your hotel, drop off your bags, and get familiar with your surroundings. Take it easy today—adjust to the time zone and enjoy a stroll through a local neighborhood like Karaköy. Spend time people-watching at a café with a Turkish tea in hand.
Day 2: Dive into Istanbul’s Historic Heart
Begin with a visit to the Sultanahmet area, home to iconic sights like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. These stunning structures are symbols of Turkey’s unique blend of Byzantine and Ottoman history. After soaking in the history, head to the Grand Bazaar. It’s chaotic, colorful, and full of charm. In the evening, relax along the Bosphorus Strait with some fresh seafood at a local restaurant—it’s a must-try!
Day 3: Explore Istanbul’s Lesser-Known Side
Start your day in Balat, an old Greek and Jewish district filled with vibrant houses and cozy cafés. As you wander, you’ll feel miles away from the tourist-heavy areas of Istanbul. For lunch, grab a simit (a Turkish bagel) and head to the Chora Church, which has incredible frescoes. End your day with a boat trip along the Bosphorus for a peaceful (and scenic) view of the city’s two sides: Europe and Asia.
Day 4: Visit the Princes’ Islands
Enjoy a day trip to the Princes’ Islands, just a short ferry ride from Istanbul. No cars are allowed on these islands, which make for a perfect escape from the city’s hustle. Rent a bike or take a leisurely walk through pine forests and along quiet beaches. The tranquil environment is great for recharging before the more intense adventures coming up.
Day 5: Head to Cappadocia
Catch a flight from Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevşehir to start another magical chapter in Cappadocia. Once you’ve checked in, take a light hike through Pigeon Valley to admire the region’s distinctive “fairy chimney” rock formations. For your first evening here, get an early sleep so you can rise before dawn tomorrow.
Day 6: Hot Air Balloon Ride Over Cappadocia
Wake up early for one of the most epic experiences you can have in Turkey: a hot air balloon ride at sunrise! As you float above the rocky landscape, you’ll see just how unique Cappadocia’s scenery is. Once you land, grab breakfast at a local café. Then spend the afternoon exploring Derinkuyu Underground City—an ancient, multi-level complex carved from rock.
Day 7: Hike and Relax in Cappadocia
Today, take a relaxed hike through Ihlara Valley, a beautiful canyon with churches carved into rock. It’s a great place to connect with nature and see fewer tourists. For something different, visit a pottery workshop in Avanos in the afternoon. Wind down with a cup of çay in one of Cappadocia’s outdoor terraces as the sun sets over the valley.
Day 8: Pamukkale’s Thermal Waters
Fly or take a bus from Cappadocia to Denizli, where you’ll visit Pamukkale. The famous white terraces filled with thermal waters are as dreamy as they look. Spend time walking through these natural pools and basking in the warm mineral water, which is said to have healing properties. Later in the afternoon, explore the nearby ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis for a dose of history.
Day 9: Ephesus – Walk Through Ancient History
Take a short trip to Selçuk, where you’ll explore Ephesus, one of the best-preserved ancient cities in the world. The Library of Celsus and the Great Theatre are absolute highlights. You can easily spend hours wandering through this archaeological gem. In the evening, visit the nearby town of Şirince, famous for its fruit wines and laid-back vibes.
Day 10: Relax on the Aegean Coast
After a few packed days, take some time to relax by the Aegean Sea. Make your way to Bodrum or Kuşadası and enjoy a slow-paced day at the beach. Whether you want to read a book under the sun or dip in the cool waters, this is the perfect spot for a recharge. In the evening, enjoy a rooftop dinner and watch the sun dip into the sea.
Day 11: Explore Bodrum’s Cultural Sites
If you’re in Bodrum, take a day to explore the town’s cultural offerings. Visit the Castle of St. Peter and the Museum of Underwater Archaeology to discover the region’s maritime history. After a full morning of exploration, relax at a waterside café for a long Turkish coffee. Spend the evening wandering through Bodrum’s lively marina.
Day 12: Make Your Way to Antalya
Travel to Antalya, a beautiful city on the Mediterranean coast. After settling in, wander around Kaleiçi, the old town with narrow streets and colorful buildings. For a proper Turkish experience, visit a traditional hamam (Turkish bath). Treat yourself to a steam, scrub, and massage to unwind.
Day 13: Explore the Ancient Ruins of Perge and Aspendos
Take a trip to the ruins of Perge, an ancient city that dates back to Roman times. Spend a couple of hours exploring its ruins before visiting Aspendos, where you can see a huge Roman amphitheater. It’s one of the most well-preserved of its kind. Head back to Antalya for some downtime along Konyaaltı Beach.
Day 14: Farewell Turkey from Antalya
On your final day, take a slow morning to relax along the coast or enjoy a final stroll around the old town’s marina in Antalya. Depending on your flight time, you might want to squeeze in a visit to Düden Waterfalls or enjoy one last cup of Turkish coffee before bidding farewell to Turkey. From ancient ruins to fairy-tale landscapes, it’s been a fantastic two weeks.
