14-Day Itinerary for Exploring Brazil

Day 1: Arrival in Rio de Janeiro

Land in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s most iconic city. Known for its stunning beaches and lively culture, Rio is a perfect mix of natural beauty and urban energy.

Take it easy today. After checking into your accommodation in Copacabana or Ipanema, go for a relaxing walk along the beach and enjoy a fresh coconut from one of the vendors. It’s a simple way to soak in the local vibe.

Day 2: Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain

Start your day early and head up to Christ the Redeemer. One of the New Seven Wonders of the World, the statue offers panoramic views of the city.

Day 3: Exploring Santa Teresa and Lapa

Depart Paraty and head to São Paulo, Brazil’s largest and most cosmopolitan city. The bus ride is about six hours, so take your time to rest or catch up on reading.

Once you arrive, get settled in and head to Vila Madalena, known for cool street art and great cafes. It’s a great way to ease into this bustling metropolis.

Day 8: Art and Food in São Paulo

Kick off your day by visiting the São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP), one of the city’s most important cultural institutions.

Next, head over to the bustling Mercado Municipal to taste the famous São Paulo-style mortadella sandwich or fresh fruits from Brazil’s many regions.

Spend the afternoon wandering around Ibirapuera Park, a green oasis in the heart of the city.

Day 9: Travel to Foz do Iguaçu

Today, catch a flight to Foz do Iguaçu, home to the mighty Iguaçu Falls. These waterfalls, shared between Brazil and Argentina, are truly awe-inspiring.

After arriving, take the day to relax. If you have the energy, visit the nearby Bird Park, which hosts an array of colorful tropical birds.

Day 10: Brazilian Side of Iguaçu Falls

Today, you’ll visit the Brazilian side of Iguaçu Falls. The walkway here offers breathtaking views of the waterfalls from different angles.

Walk along the trails and listen to the falls’ roar. You’ll get wet, so prepare accordingly. Want an extra thrill? Take a boat ride right to the base of the falls!

In the evening, head back to your accommodation and let the power of nature sink in.

Day 11: Argentine Side of Iguaçu Falls

Cross the border into Argentina today to see the falls from a different perspective. The Argentine side offers extensive trails that bring you close to the falls.

Be sure to visit the “Garganta del Diablo” (Devil’s Throat), the biggest and most powerful part of the falls. It’s an unforgettable experience.

Return to your accommodation in Foz do Iguaçu for the night, satisfied by nature’s grandeur.

Day 12: Travel to Salvador

Catch a flight to Salvador, the heart of Afro-Brazilian culture. This vibrant coastal city is full of history, music, and street food.

Once you arrive, head to the historic center, Pelourinho, with its colorful colonial buildings and churches. Spend the evening wandering around and soaking up the energy.

Day 13: Exploring Salvador

In Salvador, start your day at the São Francisco Church, famous for its baroque architecture and golden interior.

Next, take the Lacerda Elevator to Cidade Baixa. Visit the Mercado Modelo for local crafts and souvenirs.

In the afternoon, relax on one of Salvador’s beaches like Praia do Farol da Barra, where you can enjoy a drink and great sunset views.

Day 14: Departure

Your final day in Brazil! If you have some time before your flight, grab a last meal at a “comida a quilo” (pay-by-weight) restaurant. These restaurants offer a range of Brazilian dishes so you can sample different flavors.

After two weeks of unforgettable experiences, say goodbye to Brazil and head to the airport.
