Cambodia visa requirements for Australian passport holders

Last verified

Australians need a visa to visit Cambodia. Tourists can apply online for an e-Visa or get a tourist visa on arrival, both valid for 30 days, and must submit the free e-Arrival Card before flying in.

Entry rule for your passport

Visa needed: an e-Visa or a tourist visa on arrival, valid for 30 days. Your passport must be valid 6 months from arrival; arriving by air, submit the free e-Arrival Card within 7 days before.

Who this covers: Australian passports for a tourist visit of up to 30 days. Longer stays, work and other visa types need a visa through a Cambodian embassy or consulate.

Check your circumstances

Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.

Passport type Conditions to check
This covers Australian passports. A damaged passport or one with missing pages is likely to be refused, and entry with an 'X' sex marker is not guaranteed.

Stay and visa validity Confirmed for this scope
A tourist visa allows 30 days from your arrival and can be renewed only once. Overstays cost USD 10 a day with no upper limit.

What Smartraveller says

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive. You can stay 30 days from arrival on a tourist visa; to stay longer, renew it once, with a passport valid for 6 months from the start of the renewal. If a visa was issued outside Cambodia, its expiry date is the final date you can use it to enter, not how long you can stay.

Overstaying is a serious offense: authorities stop you leaving until it is resolved, the fine is USD 10 a day with no upper limit, and you can be detained, deported and banned. If you get a new passport in Cambodia, including an emergency passport, you need an exit visa from the Visa Office before you can leave. Make sure your hotel or guesthouse registers you on the FPCS system.

Apply on Cambodia's official e-Visa site

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation runs the e-Visa at evisa.gov.kh and in its official app. The tourist e-Visa (Visa T) is single entry, valid for 3 months from issue for a stay of 1 month. You need a passport with more than 6 months of validity at entry, a digital photo and a Visa or Mastercard card. Approval normally takes 3 business days, and you show the e-Visa certificate to immigration when you arrive.

Submitting an application is not approval: the Ministry can ask for more documents, refuse a visa, or cancel one issued on false information. Processing times are estimates, and fees are not refunded once processing has started.

Where the e-Visa is accepted

The e-Visa site lists the airports that accept it: Techo International (Phnom Penh), Siem Reap Angkor International and Sihanoukville International. Its land checkpoints are Bavet and Tropaeng Kreal. It lists Cham Yeam and Poipet as temporarily closed for e-Visa entry, so check the current list before you plan an overland arrival.

The e-Arrival form

Every traveler fills in the Cambodia e-Arrival, even with a visa. It is free. The General Department of Immigration says you can submit it within 7 days before arrival or on arrival, and the e-Visa site recommends doing it online in advance to avoid waiting at the immigration counter.
