Overview
Most first trips to Czechia, also known as the Czech Republic, center on Prague, where three days cover the Old Town, the castle and Vyšehrad. Kutná Hora is about an hour away by train for a day trip, and Český Krumlov in the south is about 3 hours by bus.
Late spring and September are mild and good for walking. July and August are the busiest months, winters are cold, and from late November Prague's main squares fill with Christmas markets.
When to go
Prague's Christmas markets on Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square run from 28 Nov 2026 to 6 Jan 2027. In August 2027 the Letní Letná festival fills Letná Park from 11 to 31 Aug.
