Check your circumstances
Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.
- Passport type Confirmed for this scope
- Finland lists India as visa-required for the Schengen area and Finland. Indian diplomatic passport holders are exempt, so this guide covers ordinary passports only.

Where and how to apply
Apply for a Finnish visa if Finland is your main destination. Fill in the application form on finlandvisa.fi, which also lists the documents and photo you need, then book an appointment at the VFS Global Visa Application Centre in your country of residence. Every application is submitted in person and your biometrics are taken at the same visit, unless you gave fingerprints for a Schengen visa less than 59 months earlier.
You can apply no more than six months before the trip. The maximum processing time is 15 days, but a case that needs more assessment can take longer, so apply well ahead. The mission may invite you to a personal interview about the purpose of your visit.

Documents and money
Bring the completed and signed form, one color photograph and a passport valid at least three months after your trip ends and issued within the last ten years. Your travel insurance must cover the whole Schengen area for the visa's validity, with at least €30,000 of cover for sudden illness, accident and repatriation.
The mission can ask for tickets, hotel bookings and an invitation letter, and for details of your itinerary, money and job. Finland expects you to have at least €50 a day for your stay. If a host in Finland pays for the trip, they fill in a notarized proof of sponsorship form, but you still show your own finances.

Fees
The Schengen visa fee is €90, charged in India as INR 9,600. Children from 6 to 11 pay €45 (INR 4,800), and children under 6 pay nothing. The visa application centre adds its own service fee, and all fees are paid in full when you apply.

Visa types and existing permits
A single-entry visa lets you enter once, a double-entry visa twice, and a multiple-entry visa allows several trips, with total stays never above the days on the sticker and at most 90 days in any 180. A valid residence permit or long-stay visa from a Schengen country already lets you enter without a separate visa.

At the border
Your entry conditions are checked again on arrival: carry your passport, insurance documents, supporting papers and proof of €50 a day. The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at Schengen borders since 10 April 2026. ETIAS is not yet operating, and it would not replace the visa an Indian tourist needs.
