Book these aheadPerlan (day 1), Lava Show Vík (day 5): timed tickets, or tickets that often sell out.
Use the right airportKeflavík (KEF) is outside Reykjavík. Allow the airport journey separately from the time your airline asks you to spend at the terminal.
Know your card PINCards are widely accepted. Carry a working payment card and know its PIN; tipping is not normally expected.
Respect closed pathsStay behind barriers at waterfalls and geothermal areas. A path shown on a map may still be closed on the day you visit.
Keep a picnic backupCarry lunch and water on driving days. Food halls and roadside kitchens can have different hours from the building around them.
Keep away from surfAt Reynisfjara, obey the warning lights and keep well back from the sea. A quiet-looking interval does not make the shoreline safe.
Plan a shorter alternativeThe Reykjadalur hike needs an open trail and suitable footing. If it closes, use the town pool and return to Reykjavík early; do not seek another geothermal shortcut.
