Before you go

Book these aheadBorobudur Temple, Magelang (day 2): timed tickets, or tickets that often sell out.
Start temple days earlyBorobudur and Prambanan are hot and exposed by late morning. Leave at dawn and plan indoor stops for the afternoon.
Dress for the palaceThe Kraton and Taman Sari ask for long trousers or skirts. Bring a light layer for temples too.
