Entry rule for your passport
Ordinary Indian tourists normally need a visa. Residents of India can apply through an accredited agency for a single-entry JAPAN eVISA for up to 90 days; residents elsewhere should check their local Japanese mission.
Official sources: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.
Who this covers: Ordinary Indian passports for tourism. The application route depends on residence and consular jurisdiction; work, study, visiting relatives and multiple-entry requests need separate checks.
Check your circumstances
Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.
- Passport type Confirmed for this scope
- JAPAN eVISA is for ordinary passports. Other passport types require the relevant Japanese mission’s instructions.

Apply through the route for your residence
If you live in India, follow the Japanese embassy’s link to its visa application center. The India eVISA process still uses an accredited agency; receiving an electronic visa does not mean every applicant submits directly online.
Indian passport holders living elsewhere should check the current MOFA residence list and their local Japanese mission. Some listed countries allow direct online applications, while others use agencies. Apply through the jurisdiction responsible for your residence. A mission can request an in-person interview or more documents even during an eVISA application.

Build the application around a real itinerary
MOFA’s general tourist checklist includes a valid passport, application form, photo, flight or ship itinerary, evidence of funds and a daily schedule in Japan. Give accommodation names and contact details as requested. Then check the local mission’s current checklist for any additional documents.
The embassy in India accepts applications from three months before the trip and warns that processing varies. Do not make nonrefundable plans on the assumption that a particular decision date is guaranteed.

Keep the live visa notice available
At departure, an eVISA holder must display the Visa issuance notice on a device with internet access. MOFA says a PDF, screenshot or printout is not accepted for this check. Test that you can open the notice before leaving for the airport.
Check the visa conditions and the permission granted at arrival. A single-entry visa is generally valid for entry within three months of issue; that validity is not a three-month stay already granted. The immigration officer makes the final entry decision.

Check a multiple-entry trip separately
A single-entry tourist eVISA does not cover repeated entries. If you plan to leave Japan and return, ask the mission about the correct application before booking the route.
Japan has a separate multiple-entry process for eligible Indian nationals, with conditions involving travel history, finances or qualifying family circumstances. Previous travel to certain countries can matter, but holding another country’s visa is not itself a substitute for Japanese permission. The embassy may issue a single-entry visa instead of the multiple-entry visa requested.

Keep arrival registration separate from a visa
Visit Japan Web lets you prepare immigration and customs information online. It does not replace a required visa or the immigration inspection on arrival. Visa-exempt tourists do not need to apply for an eVISA just to use it.
Use the Digital Agency link below. The agency does not charge an application fee for Visit Japan Web. The Japanese embassy also describes a paper arrival-card option at the airport, so the online service is not the only way to complete that card.
