Entry rule for your passport

Schengen C visa normally required unless valid Schengen or qualifying EU-family permission covers the visit. Follow visa dates, entries and stay within 90/180; passport issued within 10 years, valid 3 months after departure.

Official sources: Poland Ministry of the Interior and Administration.

Who this covers: Ordinary Indian passports visiting Poland for tourism, with application instructions for lawful residents of India; existing Schengen and qualifying EU-family permissions are separate cases.

Check your circumstances

Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.

Passport type Confirmed for this scope
Ordinary Indian passports need the appropriate short-stay permission. For an application, the passport must have been issued within 10 years, remain valid 3 months after leaving Schengen and have 2 blank pages.

Trip purpose Confirmed for this scope
This guide covers tourism. Apply to Poland when it is the main Schengen destination by length or purpose, or the first external entry when no main destination can be determined.

Age Conditions to check
Children need their own application and documents. Under-12s are exempt from fingerprint collection, not automatically from the visa; minors also need the applicable parental consent and custody evidence.

Residence Conditions to check
These application instructions cover lawful residents of India. New Delhi and Mumbai have different consular territories; legal presence without residence requires a justified exception, not automatic access to any visa center.

Other visas or residence permits Conditions to check
A valid Schengen visa covering Poland, Schengen residence permit or qualifying long-stay visa may already cover a short visit. Qualifying EU-family residence cards have separate exemption rules.

Official sources: European Union (Your Europe).

Carrier and arrival route Not stated in the cited guidance
The reviewed ordinary tourist application rules do not prescribe an airline. Airport transit and external-border admission are separate questions; a connection is not proof of permission to enter Schengen.

Official sources: Poland Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Stay and visa validity Confirmed for this scope
A C visa can cover at most 90 days in any 180 across Schengen. Follow the issued sticker’s territorial scope, validity dates, entry count and authorized days; a long validity window is not a longer continuous stay.

Check existing permission first

An ordinary Indian tourist normally needs a Schengen C visa to visit Poland. A valid uniform Schengen visa that covers Poland may already be enough, provided its dates, remaining days and entries fit your journey. A valid Schengen residence permit or long-stay visa can also cover a short visit to another Schengen country within the applicable 90-day limit. Do not assume an application receipt or an expired permit has the same effect.

Qualifying residence cards issued as the family member of an EU citizen have separate travel exemptions. This does not mean that any residence permit from Ireland or Cyprus is sufficient. Eligible family members accompanying or joining an EU citizen exercising free-movement rights can have a facilitated visa route; a family visit to a citizen’s own country may instead fall under national rules. Check your exact document and relationship before using the ordinary tourist checklist.

Choose the correct mission

Apply through Poland when it is your main Schengen destination by length of stay or purpose. When no main destination can be established, the first Schengen external-border country determines the responsible state. Enter your real itinerary rather than choosing a consulate only for an appointment.

This guide uses the instructions for lawful residents of India. Check whether your residence falls under New Delhi or Mumbai and use the designated visa application center. Someone only legally present in India must justify applying there; it is not an automatic alternative to the mission where they live. The standard route requires an in-person submission. Completing a form online does not make the application interview-free.

Prepare documents and insurance

Use a passport issued within the previous 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after your intended Schengen departure, with 2 blank pages. Prepare the signed application, recent photograph, cover letter, travel itinerary, transport reservations, accommodation for every country visited and evidence of funds and your circumstances. The India checklist includes recent bank statements and employment, business or student evidence as applicable. Follow its requirements for originals and copies.

Travel medical insurance must cover emergency medical care, hospitalization and repatriation, including death, with at least EUR 30,000 cover throughout Schengen for the planned stay. Follow the mission’s India insurer requirements. For a multiple-entry application, the first trip needs insurance evidence and later trips still need suitable cover. The consulate can ask for more documents or an interview, and retains the passport during processing.

Allow time and check child rules

The mission allows applications up to 6 months before travel and normally requires filing at least 15 days before departure. Processing ordinarily takes 15 calendar days but can extend to 45; appointment availability is additional, so do not treat 15 days as a guaranteed turnaround.

Fingerprint collection is normally required, with exceptions including children under 12 and physical impossibility. Previously collected fingerprints can generally be reused within 59 months, but this is not an automatic waiver of application attendance or a possible interview. Children still need individual documents. The tourist checklist requires the appropriate parental consent when one parent is absent or a child travels alone, with custody evidence where relevant. Fee exemptions and reductions have their own age rules and do not waive the visa itself.

Read the issued visa and arrival rules

Before traveling, check the visa’s valid-from and valid-until dates, authorized days, entry count and territorial validity. A multiple-entry visa valid for a year does not permit a year-long stay: ordinary short visits remain within 90 days in any 180 across Schengen. Both arrival and departure days count. Carry evidence of accommodation, onward travel, purpose and sufficient means because a visa does not guarantee admission.

EES now operates at participating external borders for covered short-stay travelers; residence and certain family statuses have exclusions. Do not confuse EES border registration with a visa application or ETIAS. The reviewed tourist instructions do not require a particular airline. A connection involving a border crossing, baggage collection or a separate Schengen flight needs the appropriate entry permission; this guide does not determine airport-transit exceptions for every route.
