Where and when to apply
If you live in India, book an appointment at any VFS Global visa application centre; new slots are released every second Monday of the month for the following month. Applicants holding diplomatic or service passports, and family members of EU citizens, can apply at the Embassy in New Delhi by appointment.
Apply no earlier than 6 months and no later than 15 days before the trip; the Embassy recommends at least 3 weeks. Processing normally takes up to 15 calendar days and can be extended to 45 in individual cases. You apply in person and give fingerprints, unless you are under 12; children aged 12 to 15 come with a parent or guardian.

Documents, insurance and fees
Bring a passport issued in the last 10 years, valid at least 3 months after you leave the Schengen area, with 2 empty pages, plus the signed form, a photo and documents on your purpose, accommodation, money and return. Applicants in India also follow the EU list for India: a cover letter, itinerary, bank statements for 3 months, income tax returns for 2 years, payslips or business or pension proof, and passport copies. A minor traveling with one parent needs notarized consent from the other.
Travel medical insurance must cover at least €30,000 in every Schengen state for the whole stay, and the Embassy accepts only insurers on the Schengen states' approved list of Indian companies. The visa fee is €90, €45 for children aged 6 to 11, and free under 6. The Embassy sets the rupee amount monthly, and the fee is not refunded if the visa is refused.

Changing planes in Czechia
Indian citizens need an airport transit visa to transit a Czech international airport. You are exempt if you hold a Schengen visa, a long-term visa or residence permit, a residence permit from Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino or the United States, or a visa for an EEA state, Canada, Japan or the United States. Family members of EU citizens are exempt too.
The transit visa is issued for one or two entries and for up to six months. Apply with your passport, form, photo and fingerprints, and show your onward journey and that you will not enter the Schengen area.

After you arrive
A visa does not guarantee entry: border officers can ask about your accommodation, money and return ticket. Within 3 working days of arrival you must register your address with the Foreign Police; hotels and other accommodation do this for their guests. Hold medical insurance and enough money for your whole stay.
The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational since 10 April 2026. If your visa is refused, you can appeal in writing at the Embassy within 15 days; the Ministry decides within 60 days.
