Entry rule for your passport
Schengen visa required for tourist stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period, unless a Schengen residence permit, D visa or EU-family residence card already covers your trip.
Official sources: The Danish Immigration Service (nyidanmark.dk).
Who this covers: Ordinary Indian passports for short tourist visits to mainland Denmark, with applications lodged through VFS Global in India. Existing Schengen permits and EU-family rights can change the route. Work, long stays, official passports and the Faroe Islands or Greenland need separate checks.
Check your circumstances
Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.
- Passport type Confirmed for this scope
- Denmark lists India as visa-required. Indian diplomatic, service and official passports are exempt, so this guide covers ordinary passports only.

- Trip purpose Confirmed for this scope
- The short-term visa covers private and tourist visits of up to 90 days. A visa does not allow work in Denmark unless the Immigration Service has explicitly granted that right.

- Age Conditions to check
- Minors need a copy of their birth certificate and notarized consent from the parent or parents not traveling with them. The fee is lower for children from 6 to under 12.

- Residence Conditions to check
- You apply in person in your country of residence. You can apply elsewhere only if you are there legally and have a valid reason for not applying where you live.

- Other visas or residence permits Conditions to check
- Certain residence permits and D visas from another Schengen state remove the need for a Danish visa. Permits valid only for the Faroe Islands or Greenland do not.

- Carrier and arrival route Conditions to check
- India is not among the 13 nationalities that need a Danish airport transit visa, so changing planes airside needs none. Leaving the airport means entering Schengen with a visa.

- Stay and visa validity Conditions to check
- A Schengen visa allows at most 90 days in any 180-day period. The sticker shows a validity period, the entries and the days you may stay; stay only the days it grants.

How Denmark decides tourist visas
You can normally get a visa when the authorities are satisfied you will leave before it expires and keep to its conditions. If they have doubts, they weigh which of five country groups you belong to. India is in group 3, where a visa is normally granted as a starting point when you visit someone with a close tie in Denmark, such as a spouse, partner, child, parent or sibling. Every application is still assessed on its own facts, including earlier Schengen visas you have used correctly.
Denmark also runs a travel agency arrangement for tourists from India. The Danish mission can issue visas of up to 30 days for package trips, with at least transport and a hotel, organized by an Indian travel agency accredited by the Embassy together with a partner accredited by the Danish Immigration Service. The agency submits the application, and the mission can still call you for an interview.

Where and when to apply
Apply to Denmark if it is your main destination or where you will spend the most days; with equal days, apply to the first Schengen country you enter. In India you lodge the application at a VFS Global visa application centre, after filling in the form on applyvisa.um.dk. You must appear in person, and your fingerprints are normally recorded.
The Embassy says its peak season runs from March to September and recommends submitting to VFS at least 4 weeks ahead in that period. If documents are missing, the checklist gives you 3 days to hand them in before the case is decided on what it has.

Documents, money and fees
Follow the Embassy's tourist checklist: the signed form and fee receipt from applyvisa.um.dk, a recent color photo, and a passport issued within the last 10 years with two blank pages, valid at least three months after you leave Schengen. Add copies of earlier Schengen visas, a cover letter, travel insurance valid in all Schengen states with at least €30,000 of cover, a return flight reservation, hotel bookings, three months of stamped bank statements, income tax returns for two years and proof of your job, business, pension or sponsor.
You must show funds of about DKK 350 a day, or about DKK 500 a day if you stay in a hotel. The visa fee is normally €90, or €45 for children from 6 to under 12, plus the VFS service fee. The Embassy can ask for more documents or call you for an interview.

Existing permits, family cards and the Faroe Islands
Certain residence permits and D visas from another Schengen state remove the need for a Danish visa. An EU residence card issued by a Schengen state to the family member of an EU citizen does too; a card from an EU state outside Schengen works only when you travel with or join that EU citizen.
A Schengen visa, including one issued by Denmark, is not valid for the Faroe Islands or Greenland. To go there, ask for a visa whose sticker states it is valid for them.

At the border
The visa conditions apply again when you enter and while you stay, so carry proof of your funds and travel insurance. The EU Entry/Exit System has been fully operational at Schengen borders since 10 April 2026. ETIAS is not yet operating, and it would not replace the visa an Indian tourist needs.
