Before you go
Check the closing daysM+ closes on Mondays, and the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Museum of History close on Tuesdays. Plan Kowloon around them.
Watch weather warningsTyphoon and black rainstorm warnings close museums and cancel the Symphony of Lights, so keep an indoor backup plan.
Bring water for Dragon's BackThe ridge hike takes about 4 hours so start early and carry water. Save it for a clear day.
Start Lantau earlyThe cable car opens at 10 AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends, and the monastery closes at 6 PM, so give Lantau a full day.
Allow time for the airportOn departure day, leave the ferry at Central Pier 4 with at least 3 hours before your flight for the airport train and check-in.
Where to stay for this plan
Stay in Central or Tsim Sha Tsui for all five days: the ferries to Lamma leave from Central, and the Lantau and Kowloon days start by train.
