Entry rule for your passport
Visa normally required unless a valid Schengen visa, Schengen residence permit or qualifying EU-family card covers the trip. Follow its dates, entries and permitted stay within Schengen 90/180.

Who this covers: Ordinary Indian passports visiting Iceland for short tourism, including applications made by residents of India; separate rules apply to official and refugee travel documents.
Check your circumstances
Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.
- Passport type Confirmed for this scope
- For this ordinary-passport application, the passport must have been issued within ten years, have two blank pages and remain valid at least three months after planned departure from Schengen.

- Trip purpose Confirmed for this scope
- The short-stay C visa covers tourism and other specified short visits. This guide does not establish permission to work or settle in Iceland.

- Age Conditions to check
- Applicants under 18 need parental consent and identity documents under the checklist, with different evidence for one-parent or unaccompanied travel. It does not establish a blanket age-based visa exemption or every biometric exception.

- Residence Conditions to check
- Residents of India use the listed VFS centers under the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi. Residents elsewhere must use the mission or representation responsible for where they legally reside.

- Other visas or residence permits Conditions to check
- A valid Schengen residence permit or qualifying EU-family residence card may remove the need for a new visa. The family-card exception has issuing-state and family-status conditions; foreign residence alone is not sufficient.

- Carrier and arrival route Conditions to check
- India is not on Iceland's airport-transit-visa nationality list for ordinary passports. Airside non-Schengen transit requires baggage checked through; entering Iceland or connecting onward within Schengen is different. No particular airline is specified.

- Stay and visa validity Conditions to check
- The Schengen ceiling is 90 days in any 180-day period. Follow the visa's actual dates, entries and authorized stay; a long validity period does not provide unlimited time or guarantee multiple entry.

Check permission you already hold
A valid uniform Schengen visa can cover Iceland without a second Icelandic visa, provided its territory, entries, validity and remaining stay cover the journey. A Schengen residence permit can also remove the need for a new short-stay visa. Carry the passport and the actual supporting document.
The immigration checker also lists an EU-family residence-card exception with conditions about the issuing state and the EU citizen's home country. Have the Icelandic authorities check your exact card and travel circumstances if you rely on it. A UK, US or other non-Schengen visa is not established here as a general substitute for an Icelandic tourist visa.

Choose the right consulate
Apply through Iceland if it is your main destination or the Schengen country where you will spend the most time. If the stays are equal, the first Schengen country you enter determines where to apply. Your legal residence determines the responsible mission or representation.
For residents of India, the official page lists VFS centers handling applications for the Embassy of Iceland in New Delhi. Use the government page to reach the current center list and checklist, then complete the required online form and arrange submission. Online registration does not make the whole process remote or remove a possible interview.

Prepare a complete tourist application
Prepare the signed application and online registration confirmation, a recent photograph and a passport meeting the ten-year, three-month and blank-page rules. Add your itinerary, accommodation for each country, return and connecting reservations, and a cover letter explaining the trip. The India checklist also asks for employment, business, student or sponsor evidence as applicable, three months of bank statements and tax-return evidence.
Travel medical insurance must cover the whole Schengen area and stay, with at least EUR 30,000 cover under the current foreign-ministry guidance. Show how you will pay for the trip and why you will return home. Use the current official checklist for your circumstances; the embassy may request more documents or an interview.

Allow time and check minor-traveler documents
The India checklist describes normal processing as 15 days from receipt at the embassy, not from the date you start the online form. Missing documents, further checks or an interview can change that. Do not treat the normal period as a guaranteed departure-ready date.
For applicants under 18 traveling with one parent, the checklist asks for the other parent's notarized consent unless the accompanying parent proves sole custody or the relevant exception. Unaccompanied minors need consent from both parents and the specified identity and relationship documents. Confirm age-specific attendance, fingerprints and fees with the responsible mission; this checklist alone does not prove they are waived.

Separate transit from entering Iceland
An ordinary Indian passport is not among the nationalities Iceland lists as requiring an airport transit visa for a non-Schengen to non-Schengen connection. That is an airside route with baggage checked through. If you need to collect bags, leave the international transit area or connect onward into Schengen, assess entry permission instead. Refugee and other travel documents can have different rules.
At entry, carry evidence of your accommodation, means and onward plans as well as your passport and visa or qualifying permit. A visa does not override border conditions. During the trip, track the allowed days and entries separately from the visa's validity dates and count earlier Schengen visits toward the rolling limit.
