Malaysia visa requirements for Indian passport holders

Last verified

Indian passport holders can visit Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026, provided they meet the conditions the High Commission lists and submit the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card before arrival.

Entry rule for your passport

Visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism, business, social visits or transit until 31 Dec 2026. Carry 6 months of passport validity, a return ticket and hotel booking; submit the MDAC 3 days before arrival.

Who this covers: Indian passport holders visiting Malaysia for tourism, business, social visits or transit. Work, study, residence and long stays follow separate rules.

Check your circumstances

Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.

Passport type Conditions to check
The exemption is announced for Indian passport holders whose passport is valid for at least 6 months. The notice does not address emergency certificates or other travel documents; check with a Malaysian mission if you hold one.

Trip purpose Confirmed for this scope
The visa waiver covers business, tourism, social and transit purposes. Work, study and other purposes are not part of this exemption.

Age Not stated in the cited guidance
The High Commission notice states no age-based condition or exemption. Ask a Malaysian mission which documents a child traveling under the waiver should carry.

Residence Not stated in the cited guidance
The notice addresses Indian passport holders without stating any condition on where the traveler lives. It does not confirm that residence elsewhere changes eligibility.

Other visas or residence permits Not stated in the cited guidance
The listed criteria do not include a visa or residence permit from another country. The list is the High Commission summary, not a complete statement of every admission condition.

Carrier and arrival route Conditions to check
Travelers must show confirmed return flight tickets and a confirmed hotel booking at the security and immigration screening. No named airline or entry checkpoint is stated in the notice.

Stay and visa validity Conditions to check
The waiver allows stays of up to 30 days and runs until 31 December 2026. Plan trips that end by that date, and check for an extension before traveling later.

Visa-free entry until 31 December 2026

The Immigration Department of Malaysia lists India on its visa-required list with a note that Indian citizens are visa-exempt until 31 December 2026. The High Commission of Malaysia in New Delhi says the waiver allows up to 30 days for business, tourism, social or transit purposes.

The exemption has an end date. For a trip that runs past 31 December 2026, check both pages again before booking: without an extension, Indian passport holders would need a visa.

Documents to carry

The High Commission asks Indian passport holders to meet these criteria and show the supporting documents during security and immigration screening:

- a passport valid for at least 6 months - confirmed return flight tickets - a confirmed hotel booking - the online Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, submitted 3 days before arrival

Meeting the criteria does not guarantee entry: immigration officers make the final decision at the border.

Malaysia Digital Arrival Card

The Immigration Department requires all foreign citizens to complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC), with exemptions such as Singapore citizens and diplomatic or official passport holders. Submit it within 3 days before arrival on the official site, imigresen-online.imi.gov.my, and show the registration with your passport at the immigration counter.

The MDAC is free. Canada's travel advice warns about websites that charge fees for arrival cards; use only the official site.

If you need a visa

Travelers who do not qualify for the waiver, or who travel after it ends without an extension, apply through Malaysia's official eVisa portal, malaysiavisa.imi.gov.my, which the High Commission links for visa applications.

The Immigration Department also describes a Multiple Entry Visa that citizens of India can apply for to make social visits. It is valid for 1 year, each entry allows 30 days, and extensions of stay are not allowed. Applicants must show sufficient funds and a confirmed return ticket; tour groups are not eligible.
