Entry rule for your passport

Explain the planned stay

Immigration may ask about the purpose and length of your visit before deciding the stay. Keep accommodation details, funds and onward travel evidence together. If staying with someone, have an invitation letter ready.

Do not assume tourist permission covers volunteering, missionary work or research. Canada flags these and some ecotourism activities for confirmation with a Mexican mission.

Save the immigration record

For air arrival, check the days on your stamp or e-gate receipt. Complete the online FMMD on arrival, download it and carry a copy. Officials can ask for it at checkpoints or departure.

For land entry, complete the FMM and present it to immigration. You can prepare and print it beforehand. Confirm the precise border-zone exception before relying on it.

Plan departure within permission

Canada says tourists cannot extend their stay or change its conditions from inside Mexico. Read your authorized date before committing to a longer trip, and leave before permission ends.

Keep the immigration record and stamped passport available for departure. Children under 18 who are Mexican citizens or residents have additional exit-document requirements; check the consent arrangements before a journey without their legal guardian.
