Overview

Most first trips pair Barcelona and Madrid, about 2.5 to 3 hours apart by high-speed train, and add Seville and Granada in the south with more time. Check whether ETIAS travel authorization is required for your dates.

Spring and autumn are the most pleasant. Summer is very hot inland, and Spaniards eat late: lunch around 2 PM and dinner from 9 PM.

Book Gaudí's big sights, the Sagrada Família and Park Güell, well ahead: they sell out. In August many local businesses close for summer holidays, especially in Madrid.
