Entry rule for your passport
No visa for tourist stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid at least 3 months beyond the date you leave the Schengen area.

Who this covers: Regular Canadian passports for short tourist visits to Spain. Official, temporary and emergency travel documents, residence rights and European dual citizenship need separate checks.
Check your circumstances
Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.

- Carrier and arrival route Conditions to check
- Use an authorized border crossing and meet the document rules. Spain’s general entry guidance names no required airline; transit-country and carrier checks remain separate.

- Stay and visa validity Confirmed for this scope
- The short-stay allowance is up to 90 days in any 180-day period across Schengen. Passport validity does not increase that allowance.

Count the whole Schengen trip
Add your time in Spain to visits in the other Schengen countries. The short-stay allowance is 90 days in any 180-day period, not a fresh allowance each time you cross a national border.
For entry, your passport must have been issued within the previous 10 years and remain valid at least three months after your planned Schengen departure. Children need their own passports. Check emergency or temporary documents separately.

Keep the border documents accessible
Carry your return or round-trip ticket, accommodation evidence and proof that you can fund the visit. For a private stay, check Spain’s invitation-letter requirements. An invitation proves accommodation; it does not replace the other entry conditions.
Enter through an authorized crossing and keep your passport with you when traveling between Schengen countries. Temporary internal border checks can apply. Visa-free status does not guarantee admission.

Separate EES from ETIAS
Canada says EES records short-stay border crossings and biometric details. You do not need to register before travel. As checked on 3 Nov 2026, ETIAS applications are not open; use the official EU site when the system launches.
Canadian citizens who also hold citizenship of a participating European country need separate passport advice. Canada says they cannot apply for ETIAS and must travel on their European passport when that system applies.
