Entry rule for your passport

No visa for tourist stays of up to 30 days; your passport must be valid for 6 months from arrival, with 1 blank page. Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card online within 3 days before you arrive.

Who this covers: Ordinary British citizen passports for a short tourist visit under the current exemption. Other documents, business, employment, residence and repeated-entry plans require separate checks.

Check your circumstances

Read these conditions alongside the entry rule. Where official guidance does not state a condition, that is not confirmation that no condition applies.

Check the passport you will use

This guide covers a full British citizen passport. It must be valid for at least six months from arrival and have a blank page. Other British nationality categories and government-issued travel documents need their own check.

If you have dual nationality, use the same passport to enter and leave Thailand. Check that your travel provider accepts your documents before departure, especially if you use a replacement or emergency document.

Submit a new arrival card for each visit

Complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card through the official Immigration Bureau site during the three-day window that includes your arrival date. Have passport details, travel information, your address in Thailand and the requested health information ready. Check the details before submitting and keep the card you receive.

The TDAC is an arrival form, not a visa. It is free through the official service. Every entering traveler needs one, including infants and children. Submit a new card for each entry. Transit passengers who do not pass through immigration do not need a TDAC.

Keep accommodation and departure evidence ready

Keep proof of accommodation, onward travel within the permitted visit and funds for the trip accessible at arrival. Check the Thai mission’s current cash requirement before departure; do not rely only on a bank balance or card. A visa exemption is not a guarantee of admission, and an immigration officer may ask questions or conduct an interview.

This exemption is for tourism. Check the correct permission before a business trip, conference, job, study period or longer stay.

Check your entry stamp and repeat-trip plans

Check the last permitted day on your immigration stamp before leaving the checkpoint. An extension of up to 30 days may be available, but immigration decides whether to grant it. Apply before your current permission expires.

Before planning a third visa-exempt entry in a calendar year, ask the Thai mission whether you need a visa. London’s embassy guidance advises a visa for more than two visits. Do not assume that flying out and back guarantees another exemption.

Check jurisdiction if you need an eVISA

For applications through London, you must have eligible immigration status and remain physically in the UK, Ireland or the covered UK territories during processing. The embassy can request an in-person interview even though the application is online.

These are visa-application conditions. A qualifying short tourist visit under the exemption does not require you to make that application. For a longer or different trip, follow the mission responsible for where you are applying.
